What is the earliest 318 that would have had an EGR valve?

I am replacing the carburetor on the 318 motor in my '69 Charger. I decided to take off the intake manifold and clean it up in the process. My mechanic friend noticed that it has an EGR valve (not hooked up to a hose or anything), and said a '69 318 shouldn't have an EGR valve, thus the motor probably isn't a '69.

Since I don't want to use the EGR valve for anything, what should I do about it? Does leaving it the way it is now (installed in the intake manifold, but not hooked to a hose or anything else) cause any issues? Is there a better way?

I'm thinking EGR valves appeared around 1975.  It won't hurt anything to run it the way it is but if it were mine I'd look around for a non EGR intake just so I didn't have to look at the damn thing.

It's not a midlife crisis, it's my second adolescence.

A 1972 318 Charger is the first year that RockAuto offers an EGR valve gasket for, and for 1973, they offer the EGR valve itself.

What year did 318s start having hardened exhaust valve seats for use with unleaded gas? I was thinking it was '73, and if so, and if my motor is at least a '73, I don't have to worry about running unleaded gas in it.

Is there any way to find out for sure what year my motor is? Now I'm starting to wonder about my fuel pump that I installed in it a few months ago. It seems to work fine, but I bought one for a '69, and I see that it is a different part number for a '73 fuel pump (even though it looks the same as a '69 fuel pump in the picture).

A buddy had a '69 318 back in the 70's no EGR. My '68 RT did not have one. My '73 318 had one. My 72 Fury did not.
