Been playing guitar for 8 years. Not really a hobby though, more of a passion and hopefully future career

Because I hadn't worked on cars for several years I needed a creative outlet, one I had the space for, so I started woodworking a little.  I also play sax and guitar so my first woodworking project was building a 52 telecaster replica.  I figured it was easier than making a wooden sax that would play!

Love to see pics...

I too play a bit of guitar but not as much as I'd like sometimes.
I guess  years of marriage and  kids took a lot of my practise time off my hands.
Now that the marriage is gone I'm endeavoring to spend a little more of my free time playing.
Picked up a Fender Telecaster and an Ibanez SG recently so I'm on track to do some serious jamming.

I don't nearly have as much time to play music or to build stuff, mostly because my free time goes to the Charger now, which isn't a bad thing.

The tele was built from scratch.  The body is a one piece ash, the neck is one piece hard maple witha groove in the back for a dual action truss rod.  The groove was filled with walnut.  Fingerboard radius is 12", more common on Gibsons than Fenders but it's just my prefference.  Frets are medium jumbos, pickups are Keystone and I also gave it a 4 way switch instead of the standard 3 way.

I carved the neck to a medium thickness, I'm not a fan of the skinny necks but the old baseball bat style necks are a bit too much for me so I carved until I found my match.

The neck was finished in Danish oil and the body in rubbing varnish which is aging beautifully.  My initial plan was to paint it aged butterscotch but I wanted to show the grain so I went this route.

Next project is a Les Paul copy.  I have a two piece mahogany body glued up and have mahogany for the neck and a 1" thich flamed maple board I bookmatched for the top.  I'll likely give it a brockburst finish but I'm undecided yet.  Originally planned to do a goldtop with P90 pups but since the maple is so stunning I need to give it a transparent finsih.  I may end up making a second LP goldtop or do an SG with P90's, I'm not sure yet.  Either way this one will get humbuckers.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Sweet as!
Does it play ok?

Oh yeah, it plays as good as any high end guitar.  Afterall, it is hand made.  :icon_smile_big:

The body itself is as basic as they come, it's pretty much a shaped slab with rounded corners and that's exactly how Leo Fender wanted it to be, fast mass production.  The neck is the crucial aspect but since maple is so stable there's very little to mess up.  As long as the truss rod slot is straight and the frets are in the right spot you're good to go.  I used good potentiometers and wiring, never skimp on that stuff and the pickups came highly recommended.  They are sweet as butter.  I sold a few guitars, including a Gibson Explorer, when I finished this one because it simply plays better.  No 60hz cycle hum either as most of them have.  I did use copper tape under the pickguard and in the switch slot.

It also feels like a tank, I can give this to Pete Townshend and he won't be able to break it....well he probably could but he'll have to work at it!

I took my time with measuring as it's pretty crucial when you build a guitar, if one fret is off just a bit you're sunk, there's no way to get it in tune.  If the necks is too loose you'd have to shim it and it'll look cheap so I paid extra attention to those areas.

The tele is probably the easiest guitar to build as it's so basic, the Les Paul will be a whole nother story.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.
