I bought my '71 Super Bee for $21K.  Spent $6500 for the engine rebuild and another $1000 for some rear end work, suspension overhaul and a good exhaust.  I have plans to put in another $30K to make it a Pro-Touring car (adding fuel injection, a 5-speed, modern interior, A/C, etc.) in a few months.

Here's how I look at it: I spend the money because this is one of my hobbies.  I have absolutely no regrets about how much I've spent because I get pleasure out of this.  I have no plans to sell the car so its value means very little to me, and if I was looking to sell, I know going in that I won't make back anything near what I have in it, so there's no disappointment.

Oh, and yes, I'm single, so I feel for you married guys.  I fully understand that you have someone to answer to when it comes to the family dollar (or at least that's how it should be in a marriage that works).  I spent the better part of 20 years being told by my ex that "I spend too much money" or "your hobby is stupid" or "you are stupid" or some such nonsense.  Finally one day, whilst handing her divorce papers, I told my ex that she shouldn't be subjected to a life with anyone who is as obviously stupid as I am, and it would be better for her to find new living quarters post haste.

The next day I went out and bought a new Vette.

Admittedly, I paid too much for some things because I didn't know any better, but now that I have a lot more tools and knowledge I'm confident in saying I can do the next restoration for a 1/4 of that...which is good because I already have another 2 projects waiting.

Off all those, funny enough it's the lower expenses that stick out, I think we all know the feeling.  How did you only spend $900 on a GV unit?  Did you find one used?

And for what it's worth, off all the ways one can burn money, anything going to these cars is money well spent.

Got it new, but it was mounted to a transmission and sat on the shop floor for a couple years.

Same, Real Nice Car. I would've snapped it up ages ago, but just could not convince my wife of the merits of a GenIII ...I still cant believe it hasnt sold looking as sharp as that and with everything done.

The 68 I sold back on Jan 30 owed me 2k over what I got for it, but I'd just count that as running/fun costs over 2 1/2 years. The Aussie Mopar I sold before that I made 12k on but had owned it for a while AND the grandson of the original owner really wanted it and I didnt really want to sell it. nostalgia has its price.

The current car owes me a lot, with transport and fees and import costs and its not even here yet, but since I'm not intending to sell it then it becomes a moot point.

I am fortunate the two owners before me took a big hit on the car. I bought it about five years ago after a unsuccessful eBay venture for $13.000.  As of now I have $16.000 in it.It may be worth that now if I am lucky . If not I would have to say I have had several thousand dollars of enjoyment out of it. I have never payed anyone to do anything to it. I do all the work my self as a fair shade tree mechanic I have fun working on it and tearing it up.

My parents bought my '71 for me for 3800 bucks. I've since put about 12-15k in it over the following 15 years. Fortunately the body on mine is in pretty good shape so nearly all of my money was spent on mechanicals and body accessories.

I practically stole my car how ever I estimate about $32k into my 72 to get it exactly the way I want To get it on the road Id say a ton less. So I dunno what Ima do...life is short and i wanna drive my car damn it!
