Is there a way to tell the options by the vin #. I just got my charger and I'm getting started on it and found out the fender tag is off of a 66 plymouth ( my car is a 69 charger RT). Any help would be apreciated.

vancamp

other thn engine, year, make, model and sequence thats all you can really get from the vin number.

:icon_smile_dissapprove: Crap, I'm not doing a restoration but I would still like to know the correct options, Just incase.

Just 6T9 CHGR

Do you have the Broadcast Sheet?

Welcome to the site by the way
Chris' '69 Charger R/T

Havn't found it. Isn't supposed to be under the back seat ?

If it is an R/T, shouldn't he be able to back into most of the options?

RGA

Its an XS29L car so its an RT, original 383 I think. What do you mean "back into the options" ?

First yank out the back seat and look for the other sheet. (do you think the back seats are original?)

But to explain: If it's an R/T it's a 440.   The firewall will tell you if it's a/c.   If it's A/C it has to be automatic (right?).  Original color should be under the carpet. Etc etc.

You can't be certain without the tag or the sheet, but, as you learn more about these cars you can look for clues and make some deductions.  There may have been seemingly infinite number of option combinations, but, a very finite number of options.

RGA

Thanks, Seats look original, just re-upholstered. It's a light green color, vinyl top car. No a/c. Automatic car. It has a 440 six pack now, not original block but I wanted to find out if original 6 pack car. I'll pull the back seat out monday. Its in the paint shop right now, I pulled the engine to freshen it up and the engine bay is getting painted while I have it out.

Vainglory, Esq.

If it's a '69 it's simply not an original six-pack car.  No such thing (and let's not get into a lengthy discussion about the late-build '69 six-pack car that's clearly just as mythical as a unicorn).

And anyway, your VIN contains an "L" code, which is a 440 - 4bbl engine.

RGA

Cool, thanks. l thaught it was a 440 car, then someone told me L was 383. Checked and found L was a 383 code, for a 71. I didnt think RT's came with 383's. Glad you guys set it strait. The 440 in it is a 76 and it runs great. I do have an original 69 440, but not with my vin on it. If anyone here needs one let me know, I'm not gona use it.

You can get the plant the car was built at as well. Broadcast sheets may be in several places in the car. Some of them are: Headliner, behind the glovebox, front or back seats, under the carpet.

R/T can only have AC with an auto trans. 383s could have 4spds and AC. An R/T stripe delete car will have 2 holes in the rear quarters where the emblems were placed. Otherwise it had the stripe. What color stripe would require some old sticker to be left on the rear of the car.

Post up the VIN stamping on the engine or better yet drop it with the 69 Charger registry so that he can run it against his database of cars. That is if it's an original Charger engine.

If it's a console car , looking at  how the floor brackets are welded to the floor will tell you if its  factory or not. Same for budy seat option.

Original color can be determined with some digging under weather stripping , glass channels, under carpet etc, etc

As far as radio or light pkg options will be for the most part unable to determine

22" radiator opening will tell you it's a 3.23 rear axle car, 26" rad opening and all bets are off

Those are the ones that will take some real detective work; what looks to be disturbed, or not. Wires cut and capped?  What looks to have been removed and replaced, What's not original; doors hood, trunk.

How molested is it?  Pics?

Radiio and tires -tough, tough.....

RGA

The wiring harness is perfect under dash and hood, car is missing center console but brackets are still there, hood was replaced for sure, there is old body work so don't know what else. Car is a driver now, in primer with some rust and some body work needed. I should get it back from paint monday or tuesday (getting engine bay re-painted) and I will get some pics up.
