Here is another one for you..
Man, apparently the fall brings out the cars for sale. Always makes me wonder if I should have hung on just a bit longer.  :shruggy:

QuoteThe car is in original unrestored condition with matching numbers. The vinyl top and front seat covers have been replaced. The rest of the interior is orginal.

Yea, except for the repaint and new top and interior.  ::)  Still nice car. Not many yellow 68s out there.

Never thought about it but could one get a Dana in a 383 4spd? It doesn't look to be an ordered car either.

It says Dana 8 3/4". I don't think they know.

I love how they painted right over the pentastar on the fender. :P

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Yea, but it looks like a 6 in the AX on the tag?  :scope:

[edit]

Ok, so maybe this will clear this up. I have seen many tag decoders list A6 as:
QuoteA - 6 = 3.54/3.55 ratio (Dana/8 3/4 axle)

So maybe it's only a Dana on a 440 car and otherwise just indicates the rear end ratio?

any car could be ordered with a Dana , I heard of a slant 6 stn wagon with a Dana all you had to do was check off the performance axle pkg

Ok, but this car doesn't look like it was an ordered car. Would they just randomly place options on cars headed for lots or did they stick to "standard configurations" for non ordered cars?

Yeah, that means 3.54 gears in a Dana OR 3.55 gears in an 8 3/4". It's just listing the ratio.

Correct - And since you could not get a Dana behind anything other than a 440 or Hemi the 3.55,  8-3/4  applies here.

Here is another one for you....

Thanks!  :2thumbs: A new one to me. I like the color, except, like Troy noticed, the painted over pentastar.  Wow....  :P

Interesting that it was specified with the 26" radiator while not being an ordered car. A March 22nd Hurst shifter car...someday we'll figure out just when they made the change from the Inlands.

I guess one of the mysteries never to be fully explained is why they come with certain options as an in-house specified/built car. My take on it...

1. 3.55 Sure Grip (moves like a scared rabbit)
2. 26" radiator (keep it cool no matter how hard you thrash it)
3. Tinted Windshield (You never know when you'll lose your sunglasses)
4. Non-console shifter (who needs a console to go fast?)
5. Power brakes (to quickly reverse the right foot mashing)
6. Rear Seat Speaker (play that AM radio loud!)

Looks like a psuedo-bare-bones pocket-rocket that would have no problem selling.  ;)

Benji

My dad in 1963 ordered a 1964 Plymouth Valiant station wagon with a slant six and a 4 speed transmission. It came with a Hurst shifter from the factory!

What is a inland shifter?

It's a different 4spd shift handle. They switched mid 68 to Hurst from Inland. Here is a quote from an older thread.

Which is the correct shifter handle for a '69. Is the non console shifter handle the same as a road runner or super bee with no console?
The fat round one with the pull up handle for reverse is an Inland and would only be found prior to mid 68. The Hurst would be found in 69 and it should be a thin, round handle with a flat spot where the Hurst logo is. The second picture Chris posted is probably the best view. The wood grain ball would be correct for 69. All the B bodies would have used the same shifter for similar applications (console vs non-console).

The Inland Shifter was a completely different shifting mechanism from the Hurst, utilizing a reverse lock-out for positive engagement into reverse. Interestingly the later Hurst shifters used the same shift rods as the Inland. A pet name for the Inland Shifters was "find-a-gear"...they were not very positive with their shifts. I'll vouch for that.  :yesnod:

I thought "guess-a-gear" was the term. Anyway, I'm going to keep mine because I like the idea of a functioning reverse lockout and I'm very curious to see just how bad the Inland is overall. If nothing else it seems like it could work as a good theft deterrent.

I've heard "guess-a-gear" and the "noodle shifter."
