About the only good thing I can say about my JOB is that I wear a lot of different hats, which is good for someone like me. :shortbus:
One minute I'm an electrical engineer, the next a mechanical engineer, an hour later I'm a pipefitter installing a pump or maybe an electronics tech troubleshooting a broken piece of equipment... then maybe later I'll be a security watch officer or an administrator... sometimes I'm a draftsmen and sometimes a designer... of course some days I'm a planner and some days a purchasing agent... a painter, a tin knocker, R & D, test engineer, tech writer, cleaner, mechanic, consultant, etc,etc,etc... you name it... Cheif Cook & Bottle Washer, that's me.

If I have to waste 8.5 hours of my life everyday at work when I could be home doing something constructive... so be it, just don't bore me.

I'm guessing you're one of the Village People?

The full time job I like the access (although I have to sneak it in) to some machinery to make or fix some of the parts for my projects.  Because I repair a wide variety of manufacturing equipment, I get to work with other mechanical and electrical guys also in the hobby so we get to share some knowledge and help for each other out.  For the part time job I work for hobby funds, I give massages to some clients from a local beauty salon and from the full time job.  I shouldn't need to give any explanations why I like that one  ;)

Whoa, If that last bit isn't a joke I'd say that would be a good job, gives ya something else to look forward to  :drool5:

Why not try and do that full time ?

The best part of my job is that I get to fix and play with other peoples toys, get an employee discount and a paycheck at the end of the week.... Aside from that there isn't really anything to look forward to, too many politics.

Good part is getting paid nicely to Machine & Build Performance Engines,
but,
the BEST part is I get to FLOG everything I build on the Dyno for the Customer first, no exceptions

Starting 2 HEMI's next week, Both 540's with Stage V heads, but also gotta Flog a coupla Big Wedges on the Dyno sometime over the next 2 weeks....busy....busy....busy.

Nope, no joke.  It's something I enjoy for the most part but it's not always the beautiful needing some hands on attention.  It's also one of those economy based indulgences that people will cut down on when things start getting tight. Kinda funny though to get paid to do what some others wish they had a chance to give for free.

Civilian career:
I love the fact I'm doing what I studied in college, Geophysics.. I enjoy the ability to get on this board during down-times and the flexiblity I have. Don't do it much any more, but loved the travel and trips to Europe, company's dime and I was getting paid to do it...  :2thumbs:

Air Force career:
exposure to aircraft and the side of the military not many people can get to. During my bomber and fighter days, it was fun slamming bombs on the aircraft and watching them take off (Luckily, I was able to fly a F-16 once !!). This career is coming to a close (Next June; 20 years and pulling the parachute cord)...

The best part of my job is the Physical training every morning, and 1600 hrs shut down time. 22 years in the military and 3 years to retirement. Then its back to being a long haired, dope smoking fire hazard.

I worked in civil and military aviation all my adult life.  I left the work force about 13 years ago to make room for two people to take the jobs I had.  I didn't need or want them anymore, and had more important things to do.  I list my current position as "professionally unemployed".

I can't wait for retirement, but the way I figure it, financially I should be able to retire about 5 years after I die :RantExplode:

Graphic Designer. I design large commercial lighted signs and channel letters...stuff like that. Almost 30 years, yikes! I'm ready to retire but my bank account isn't!  :eyes:

I like doing original designs, but I don't get to do it much. It's mostly just repeating the same stuff.  :brickwall:

You and I are kindred spirits GI. Back in the day my PT consisted of dragging tie down chains all over the freakin' tarmac. The absolute best times doing this were during lighting storms........after all these years I still have an odor of ozone around me.  :smilielol:

I enjoyed a full career in television engineering and bailed in 2004 and began drawing my pension (chose to take it early....you never know right?) After putzing around for a couple years, in 2007 I went to work for a pharmaceutical company. Super job, close to home, benes and no weekend, night or holiday shifts. Woohoo
Then myself  and 30 other souls were shown the door. I'm embarrassed to tell you I can't get a job to save my butt. Once they saw the 1953 BD on the resume that's all she wrote. I never been out of work in my life. We're financially good but I'd love even a part time gig. I'm looking at being a 99 weeker and it sure doesn't sit right.  :shruggy:

I mentioned that to my wife. She asked what my greeting would be. I said it would be a cheerful corporate "Welcome to Wal-Mart now move your fat ass along". Not sure I'd a good fit.  :smilielol:

Been professionally working on junk for over 20 years. Newer cars are taking the fun right out of it anymore, along with the daily dose of Mr. and Mrs. a$$hole Customer that thinks their little Foreign POS is the only f*ckin' car I have to repair that day. Dealing with the public is really irritating. Nobody can be without their ride for more than a couple hours. I cannot believe NOBODY in today's world have a "Plan B" approach to vehicles..Are the car companies really making them that trouble free to where you figure you didn't need to have a back up car any longer?
Did you really think that the damn thing was gonna last forever? I mean, no maintenance? Seriously?

I guess when you deal with the entirely ignorant of automobiles every single day, you tend to become jaded about the public. I know not everybody is like the average soccer mom with 5.2 kids and a broken down, ragged, busted, worn out, beat up, on it's last leg, pos mini van that she keeps insisting she's never had to do anything to in 250K miles and can't understand why it needs "All this crap" right now.....

Plus I have a drunken, narsasistic(Spelling?), unable to deal with the public AT ALL without going off on a tangent right in front of the customers, Owner/Boss that doesn't make it any easier...Come to think of it, bout the only thing I have to like is the fact that I get to use the lift for what the Boss calls my "Ragged, broken down, busted, worn out, over priced, Musclecars".....
No retirement, pension, 401K, nothing.....I have my own insurance policy....
