guys, ive searched awhile figuring i could find something on this topic, but cant seem to find this answer. Ive got a 69 charger with a one wire alternator hooked up and rewiring the front of the car. if i have a one wire alt that is internally regulated, then do i even need the external regulator on the fire wall? if not, can the wires going to the regulator be removed completely?
thanks all.

that alt got a MOUNTED ON regulator ( that little box attached to it ) is not a REAL BUILT IN regulator. That mounted stuff makes the same job than the deal on your firewall and in fact keeps the fields wired on the same way with just the the diff on how the reg itself is being feeded. That this little stuff gets turned on by the stator action inside the alt ( thats the reason why the wire coming out from inside ) and is sourced by the wire attached to chassis ( neg ) and alt stud ( pos ) diff than the stock piece where the ign key is what turns on AND sources the positive to reg and neg is by chassis.

you could make in fact unplug the fields from that small mounted box and use your stock parts and wiring to fields OR use the mounted on piece... as your wish. BOTH regs source the alt fields on same way.

if you decide to keep that mounted on regulator, yes, you can not to use the stock parts, remove reg and cut and remove wires...

HOWEVER I wouldn't cut the wires. You can in case of emergency unplug the attached piece and get the stock reg mounted on firewall wired like factory did. The regulator attached to that alt is not ( as far I know ) regular parts shop piece like the stock reg, unless I'm wrong and missing something

just as a matter of tastes and options
