The Daytona is looking great Dane, but it really needs a Dana 60!!  :icon_smile_big:

Not going to do that - yet. My budget is maxed - The way I built this - it will hold. I'm not planning on launching this - the tires will spin before anything else gives way. In fact - I want the tires to spin, I don't want to torque or stress the car as a whole, or put a load on the rear window. These tires are not going to do anything but smoke :)

Am I under the wrong impression? I have read story after story about how the 8.75 compares well against the FORD 9". Even my builder was impressed with the 8.75 – and said it would do me well. I know people who race their 8.75 at PIR and Woodburn and beat the mud out of theirs. Grant it, it's not the Dana – I know.

Oh yeah don't get me wrong 8 3/4" Chrysler axle is great and handles abuse alot better than other X brand rear axles, But that is one heck of a elephant you have in that Daytona and I don't think the ol' 8 3/4 will last long under that elephant!  :icon_smile_big:
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

Yes - I've been looking at Dana 60's for 3500.00 - new. This one cost me 1200.00 from drum to drum. This one will be more of a cruzer show off car than anything. I'm going to be easy on this - who wants to tear up 20K of an engine? Not me.

I'm getting really close - Can't wait to put the fenders and nose on it - and start on my wing. Have to repaint the hood - did not like how it turned out - distortions in the base - looking at getting a new gun. I will put it together, then in the spring pull the hood and paint it. If I don't get the bug before.

More because I like the offset style - and the fact of homologation rules requires 500 Daytonas to be made. Also that the Daytona was the next step after the 69 500 - a tribute to the progress. Plus it will be kind of fun to see some people think I used a 500 to build the Daytona. It is fun to hear all the theories people have when they look at your car. But the bottom line is I love the offset Badge. Glad you noticed :)

Looking good Dane!! I take it those are HEMI badges off a new Charger! :icon_smile_big: I gotta get a couple for my Daytona as well!!

I see what you are getting at. The on the floor shifting requires some different linkage to lock the stearing so the car can't move from the P. On column shift cars - there is no need - the linkage stays to same and is different from the floor shift and 4 speeds.

I have some of this stuff. Use the picture in this post and tell me what you do have and what your missing. Most of the small block stuff is differant. An example is the small block cross shaft is longer because the transmission is narrower. Most of the rods are differant lengths also! Contact me at moparjohn@frontier.com .

i have never seen one quite like that what is the additional unit on top of the gear housing? looks good polished up, for a show car will look good

Daytona Guy

I didn't like the red blob on it so I had "Kim" put the 72 cap on top. That gold coating buffs right off to a not a very good chrome - but to me - better than the flat annadize gold (for a custom resto).

More progress - with silly little details I enjoy, like the door dome light switch. Glass beaded it, then buffed it. The new ones are not what I want – The package try is not the final (glass not in yet), but a rough test fit. I have it well insulated all over and under.

I am wondering if I should sound deaden my trunk. I like to show the detail of the paint and the finished trunk, but I also like to deaden the sound???? what shoud I do???

Indygenerallee

Looking good Dane!  :2thumbs: I would run that Dynamat, you can a knockoff brand for a lot less though, I saw a 68 Stang that was done with it and they even did the underside of the roof, floorpans, trunk, firewall and the noise difference was amazing.
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

my   :Twocents:  leave the trunk floor and sides stock , and just put a ton of sound deadener between the
back seat and trunk divider .

Did that - but the whole car becomes a "speaker" cone -  and any place you dampen it - keeps the sound from traveling through the body and panels - I am using a membrane. What I did not like about dynoMatt was that it has an aluminum backing (that helps retain its form - and not for heat - aluminum is the worst at retaining heat), and if anyone knows, aluminum does not like to stick to anything or anything to it. So, tacking carpet to it is a pain - I didn't like using it. This Grace stuff has a rubber backing that glue loves to stick to it - me liky :)

Patronus

^ I use that stuff all the time for exterior flashing, didnt know it did sound deadening too.  :scratchchin:
I prefer the foil bubble wrap myself..
Getting close, love the car.
