Oh..by the way...if your Charger is a '68, and it's blue...good chance it's QQ1, not B5.

And QQ1 (Electric Blue Metallic) is a fantastic color, especially with painted wheels - in body color!

I think the only steelies that were black were on full-hubcap cars. Anything with dog dish hubcaps were body color. there was the 1969 1/2 cars with the 440 sixpack or 6bbl setup that had black wheels with no hubcaps, just chrome lugnuts but no Chargers like that.

I vote for the body-color wheels on yours. Mine actually had full hubcaps originally so it had factory black wheels. Still deciding for me !!!!

Magnumcharger

And that's where it's nice to have several sets of wheels/tires for your Charger.
One set black - for wheelcovers, another set body color - for hubcaps, a set of Magnum 500s for "going to town", and maybe a set of lightweight aluminum "mags" for street/strip action.

My wife likens it to having several pairs of shoes...

I know nothing about that. ::)

All steelies went to black only (including doggie capped cars) some time during the 71 model year.

I am sure you know more about them than me maxwellwedge as I was going by my bad memory and my own buildsheet for mine. Interestingly, on the 1969 Registry, they only go to "M24" as the last entry on the code sheet but mine has "M25" on it. I know my car came originally with 15" black steelies and "W11" deluxe hubcaps, also as noted on my buildsheet. My wheels, all 5 of them, are dated Jan 1969 and I am sure they are original to the car I think the code "M25" must be for the 15" heavy duty (JJ coded) black wheels.

Never noticed the change to all black steelies in 1971 forward, no matter the configuration, but I don't remember too much from that era ! :icon_smile_big: :icon_smile_big:

M25 is the code for the Wide Sill Molding (lower rocker molding)

The wheel code is W25 for steel wheels.... 14" or 15" depending on model of car

These scans from dealer Facts & Feature manuals show both the recalled W23 wheel & the replacement W11 15" cap for Hemi only cars

I believe all hemi cars got either the W25 designation for the steel wheels 15" only or the only other optional wheel for a Hemi car which was the W23 KH recall wheel that was 15" as well

I don't remember much from then either!

Ha Ha, I DID write M24/M25 instead of W24/W25 !  Anyway the chart shows my deluxe wheelcovers on the bottom and my steering wheel on the top (black w/half-ring horn and standard on the Charger). They are 15" as standard on that model. You rarely see the hubcaps on a car anymore and my restorer thinks they would look awesome with some custom steelies in 7" on the front and 8" to 10" on the rear. I do have a complete set , new-in-box , with factory wraps still on it. Kinda hate to use them though and I would not get rid of the original wheels either.  I probably will at least try some new style slot mags on it as they really look nice on my restorers Chally!

Sorry for hijacking the thread, OP and I still would vote for body-colored ones on your car.

XS29LA47V21

Ran black with dogs for a while, not crazy about that look on B5 :slap:.  Black looked nice on a R4 Dart I had some years back with it's stripe and hood blacked out.  Black obviously looks good on black, but few other others  :Twocents:.  I am heading towards matching car color on the one I am building.

Thanks so much for the input!! More + pics is still welcome!!

I'm gonna try and post a pic of my car here too. Not sure if my car is B5 or QQ1. It's a color i chose myself at the paintshop and think it must be like B5. The car was originally B3.

I'm definately leaning towards color. First i wanted to change to Centerline autodrags but now i decided to buy new wheels i started to really think about steelies because i love them when i see pics of cars with them.

By the way, compare the steelies of Magnumchargers '68 picture to 68x426 '69 picture both original steelies to manufacture year?? they are different.

Chris.

I really do not know what color blue your Charger is but, color coordinated steelies would look great on it. The last pic posted by 68x426 is a picture of "cop car" steelies and were not stock on them. Looks nice but I would prefer the original-style wheels painted body color.
