Question on a transmission fluid and filter change I just did.

When changing fluid and filter on a fairly freshly rebuilt 727 tranny have anyone here experienced a change from good to not so good. Everything was running and shifting fine before I changed the fluid and filter but after the change I started noticing a weird rev up right after  it shifts from 2nd to 3rd. just curious to know weather a fresh fluid and filter change in the tranny would cause anything like this.
Again....it was shifting and running just fine before the change and I've double even tripple checked the fluid levels in neutral. It's right where I had it before the fluid change.

"Freshly rebuilt" and "since 2002" don't jive.

Sorry John..
I may have mis-spoke on that. It's a first time tranny/filter replacement since I had the tranny rebuilt in 2002 (approximately 15-20000 miles back)

I've been messin around with that adjustment back and forth a little and it seems a bit better. Still seems like something odds going on right after it's shift from 2nd to 3rd. Not all the time but sometimes depending on the load on the shift at that point.

RPM flareup at the 2-3 shift is usually caused by pressure leakage at the front clutch, either the rubber seals or the metal sealing rings (or both) are worn. If the problem is the rubber seals, an additive like Trans-X or Lucas will rejuvenate them but only replacement will cure worn sealing rings.

One possible reason that this occured right after a fluid change is because well-used fluid is a little "less slippery"  than fresh fluid and the clutches are less likely to slip with old fluid. Does throttling back a little at the 2-3 shift makes it shift more positively?

Yeah I've kinda noticed that John. Kind of a bummer. I'd really like to avoid another tranny drop rebuild if at all possible. But if thats the way it has to be....????  I'll try the lucas thing first and run it for a while that way.

Hey John,

Finally got some decent weather that allowed me to take it out for a good little cruise to test out my adjustments. I bumped the timing up a little bit. Tweaked the KD linkage arm and made sure the tranny fluid level was perfectly between full and empty and it's running really great now. I think the timing adjustment might have donet the trick.

We are all good once again.  :2thumbs: :D
