There wasn't one on my Daytona when I bought it, however, the holes in the frame are there. Should it have one (440 automatic)? If not, what constituted having one?  :shruggy:

Yes - The automatic cars got them - not the 4-speeds.

I would assume the holes were still there though Jimbo? My Dana was a 4-speed as you know and she had the three holes in the framerail. Of course, when I got her, she didn't have it... Like most cars of this age...............

The holes are there on the frame rail regaurdless. On a stick car the holes should look clean though since they never had bolts run in them.

Also it really isnt a starte shield as its been nicknamed over the years. It is a transmission shield, protecting the shift linkage and arm at the tranny.

My Charger is a hybrid car, it burns gas and rubber............

yes, it's really not a "starter shield"....what the real purpose of this shield is to keep mud, snow, & dirt out of the auto trans linkage and the kick-down linkage at the trans.....

don't bother asking how I know this...I took it off one of my automatic cars way back in the 70's when I had it...drove the car in the snow & slush one day and wondered why I could not push down on the gas pedal...looked at the trans area down where the shift lever & kick-down lever is and it was packed with snow all the way to the trans tunnel...

and yes, it should have one if it's an original automatic car

Then tell me why both of these have them, original cars, both 4spd's.
