Im trying to install a new tach from chargerspecialties on 69 chgr that had a clock gauge.

The diagram shows a gray wire (18 gy) used with clock (or tach ??) and i wonder if it is connected to coil (it was not used when i took out panel and it fits the coil-connection on the new tach.) Can anyone enlighten me regarding this wire ?

I would also like tips on where to draw the 12V for the clock and the key on 12V for the tach ?

I just hooked up my charger specialties tach not that long ago and used the evans wiring harness as it has the correct colors. I pulled power from the top radio fuse spade, which connects to the bottom connection on the tach labeled 12V. The white wire goes to the clock, and the top wire labeled tac goes to the coil....

Hi guys, thanks for replies!

I'm still in doubt though what the 18GY wire is. is that the power for the clock ?

Which harness did you get ? Apparently the Charger Specialties harness colors are wrong which is why I got the Evans harness. Do they also include a firewall grommet ? If so the same color wire with the firewall grommet would be the same color that goes to the coil and to the top connection labeled tac on the gauge...

Same colors as mine. Blue 12v power, gray coil, white for clock.

My car is a 70, but it may/should be the same.  The tach harness is only for the tach portion of the tic-toc-tach.  The blue wire runs from the tach to the fuse box, and the grey wire runs from the tach to the neg. side of the coil.  The clock pigtail hanging off of the tic-toc-tach plugs into your dash harness clock plug which is also a grey wire.

My tach harness is from Bill Evans Wiring, and my dash harness is from Year One.

Great pic's Dan, thanks!

Since i didn't buy a harness, i plan to run a new wire from -coil to tach signal connector, use the gy 18 wire in the old harness for the clock as intended and then take some key on power for the tach from fuse-box instrument feed. Is that croaked or do-able ? is there an easier solution for key on power ?

The grey wire goes from the tach to the coil negative.

No, I think you can do that 12V power run yourself.  Just run it over to the same spot on the fuse box as I have in the picture.
