I know what you mean.  I was all dead set on working on mine this year, but that went  :flush:  I was really hoping to get it going and have some fun.

ChargerD100

Im getting lucky with some of my parts most of the parts im getting are spares off of people from the car club my family has been in for a long time and all the guys with chargers know ive wanted one forever and finally got it and can stop drooling on theirs toss me random parts they aren't going to use for pretty fair prices

That's good.  Unfortunately, not too many people into Mopars in my area.  Luckily,  I got most of the parts with my car so I'm not hurting too bad.  Outside of windshield pivots, I have everything that just needs freshening up, and I'm good to go.  I just have some rust repair to do, and then it's just a matter of painting and assembly.

Congrad's and enjoy the car, whichever way you wanna do it....... This is meant to put a smile on YOUR face, not anyone else's...... Now, if someone else enjoys it when it is out-and-about, all the better....

What are all the parts with the car?  What is missing?

It seems difficult to put a 'positive' value as it looks torn apart and in the middle of bodywork.  It seems like the value to you would more likely be to not go further in the hole.   :'(

Finds like this give hope! Good luck! :2thumbs:

Sure do, they're still out there, just have to be patient and look a little harder.

Do your self a favor, don't sell the car! When I was 22 I was married and a child. All my car friends sold off there cars and told me it was time to grow up and sale mine.  :scratchchin:

I did not listen and while I did not have money to dump into the 68 Road Runner I kept her. Over the years I kept plugging away, there where time I lost interest and found different hobbies, but I kept her. Worst length of time was 8 years and I left her sitting outside! :slap:  :brickwall:

I did not even start her for the 8 years!  :nono: But I finally got the Mopar Fire again and opened the hood, this was the mess I found.

Little bit at a time and $500 and 6 months later I got the engine squared away.

She lived and now moves under her own power!  :D :D

Next step is getting on the body work which I enjoy.

Moral of the story, the Car's will wait for you! I got my 68 Road Runner when I was 17, I have now owned her for 40 years.  :2thumbs: She has been through the Good Times (When I had money to spend and she looked Good) and the bad times but she waited for me with out compliant! Better than most wife's I know of and the Car can not cheat on you.

GREAT advice from cudaken !  Many times I needed money bad and had extremely tempting offers for the Charger but, ........... she is still mine !! Try to find another way to cope with the things life throws your way.  You will thank us for it someday!

I don't know, do you think that will happen?

MxRacer855

You never know, but I'm sure they'll always turn up. Just less and less of them. I was explaining that to a friend the other day. It's so unique how these cars were purchased to be daily drivers 45 years ago, and they just got run into the ground from driving in the elements 24/7. When they get recovered years later by someone looking to do a resto and have a classic car, they almost become immortalized. They end up getting rebuilt so well and they're already so desired and valuable that chances are they'll never find they're way back into a barn to die (barring any serious accident or someone's unfinished project). It's really any amazing thing!  ;)

Lord Warlock

The car will cost you nothing if you just set it aside to focus on bills instead of parts for the car.  The parts price will probably go up but you can always wait till you can afford to work on it again.  Selling just because you have kids and a wife is a mistake many make, they think getting older means you have to give up what YOU want to provide what others want, and the small amount you usually get for a half done shell won't pay off debt in most cases so won't resolve anything.   I'm glad that I ignored others advice at the time and just set it aside for years at a time to wait for when i was ready to work on it.  My car has sat motionless for 10 years a couple times in its past, it survives better if you can store it in a garage, at least cover it up so moisture can't get in.

Pretty much agree with Lord Lock said.

Lets say you got $5,000.00 for the Charger. In the over all skim of life that is a drop in the bucket. May make things better for a month or so, then you are broke again.

A dream on the on the other hand will keep you young for a life time. If you don't have something to look forward to besides work and bills might as well take a dirt nap.

Pick something and cheap to do on the Charger. You are doing your own body work right? Pick a couple of body panels and start working on them, when done move to another pair. Small efforts will add up over time.

I just looked back and see you have a engine. Get it running! If you look at my post that I listed the link to you will see how to start a long sitting BB.

Good Luck and Keep The Fire Going, The Mopar Fire.

I am not the grand Pooba on car building by any means, but I have been doing this mopar thing for about 40 years now.
I struggled for years in borrowed and rented dumps and pro shops.
The best thing i did was sell my 68 trac pac Coronet and put the money into building my work shop,
I have never regretted that decision once, and that was 28 years ago.
My coronet was in the condition your Charger is in now.
From having the shop I was able to do all types of things out there to make an extra buck. I have owned so many fun Mopars over the years since with so many great memories driving them, I have driven across the U.S. a dozen times in old Mopars and loving each one. Everyone was between $2500 and $8000.
I have no idea what your career choice is or what you would like it to be, but what ever it is do the best you can at it and always try to do better.
with all that said, I am thinking that you should sell the Charger, you are going to have enough stress and work in your life raising a beautiful new project baby.
The car will continually add stress subconsciously, use the time to build your skills and increase your income.
If you find that you are having extra cash at the end of the month then stick it in a savings. Better yet open a locked automatic savings that takes money from pay cheque and automatically save for you.
You will have a windfall in ten years and by then you and the kid can start on a project, or buy a great car you can really enjoy.
There are a lot of great deals out there on driver quality cars, that you can drive as you improve it.
Here are a few costs that you need to be prepared to pay out.
Body and paint min $6000.00
Front to rear suspension and steering $3000
Instruments and wiring $2000
Interior $2000
Chrome $2500
Full TTI Exhaust $1600
Etc etc...
I hope not to come across negative but trying to be helpful,
There will be others out there, and with speed at which us older guys are aging
I think you will start to see some great deals coming up. Lol.

MxRacer855

I don't even need to get started on my list... but it will be well worth it!  :2thumbs:
