Just finishing up the block sanding the front of the car before I tackle quarter panels. Yes Im working this in a bad way just trying to get one section of the car semi done.  'm not sure how many steps till base coat. I've heard some will then spray a primer and then a sealer on top of the blocked car. Just want some suggestions. The car will be in base/clear for final paint.

Thanks

block sanding high build / filler primer ??    would not  not leave it in a open state ! ie flatted for more than a few days before recoating  , check with your primers MDS  ,

what i would do  , something like  what you are doing  ,  once each panel is been repaired , bondoed up  flatted etc etc till your happy with it  , just rag on some etch primer , then move on to the next then 2k fillerprime the whole lot in  one hit , then block , reprime let it sit a few weeks then block again, then reprime a few coats of thinner build  primer  may be mix it  3to1 & 20 % thinner depending on MDS of primer !!   wet flat in notmal way !

doing a panel at a time is still good , going this way  i would get each panel in 2k filler primer , prolly 3 to 4 coats on each , then  leave it , go on to next  panel ,  once whole car is in primer , then start blocking  & repriming blocking & priming wet flatting as mentioned above , depending what you think it needs !!
ever body guy , that knows what he is doing  !! has their own way to this  , all achieves the same results

Block sand primer till the bodywork is done to 600g (although I prefer 800g). Then spray sealer in closest color to finish color. (black, grey, white, red) Make sure to get data sheets (MDS) on all your products as these will answer some of your questions. Most sealers have a wet-on-wet application (sealer/paint within 1 hour) or a barrier coat (sealer dry, then paint) This is the same as base/clear application, allows the two materials to bond.
Also, when you block sand, you can work your way to the body lines in the first few strokes (like sharpening a knife), but you will have much better results sanding from one end of the panel to the other..  :Twocents:
BTW, a Charger is 17' 2" long..  :eek2:  those E body guys got it easy!!!

Im using a product called 3n1 High build primer surfacer/ sealer from a local auto paint dealer. It appears that the function of the product depends on how much ratio of thinner is added. I've been using it as a surfacer up to this point as it has very good sanding qualities. I take it that you(Tan Top) are concerned about the blocked panel getting flash rust? Ok I get that. I think what Im hearing is that you don't seal the car until all the body work is done. Except in the case of doing one panel at a time I should put a temporary seal on it!

Tell me if Im gettin this correct. And thanks for the advice up front its really much appreciated.

yeah i would ,  lots of paint companys do an etch primer & with the health & safty regualtions now , they have designed them to be put on with a rag (as well as from a gun) as they are soo thin & no build to it  , they are just for etching the metal &  stopping it from going rusty, depending how long left between etching & filler/ high build primer, either scuff with  red scotchbrite or just go straight over the top , check with the MDS

only have a few pictures when i done my resto , wish i would of taken more now , but this is how i would leave a panel in etch before moving on to the next
can see the rest of the bolt on panels in etch at back against the wall
