Something that scared the hell out of me today!

Well, I am doing some repair work to my water fall in my back yard and I came around the corner of the house and see something that looked like a huge rock in my grass.  Curious as to how it got there I walk up to it and it moves!  Here is what I came across:

The mulch bed in the back of the pic is where I think it was hibernating and crawled out from as there was a huge area of mulch missing.  Evidence still on the turtles back!

Cool hell, it scared the crap out of me!  I was able to get a quick measurement of how long the shell was and it was over 12" long.  The tail was about maybe 6" long and the head I'm guessing was about 1 1/2" diameter.  I tried to pick it up with gloves on the sides of the shell and thank god for having gloves on as the damn thing has spikes or something on its legs by the body and it kicked back and spiked my glove.  Had a hard enough time trying to get the thing onto the square nose shovel.  All I wanted to do was get him across the street so he wasn't on my property.

That bassard will probably be back. We have trouble with them borrowing into the ground here to lay their eggs. Then they came back to the same place every time to do it again.... A few years ago one took out all the dirt from around a fence post and in the wind, it collapsed. After the storm, I went out and found the drag marks from that sorry biotch again and knew what happened... What a pain in the arse!!!  :brickwall:

Brian,

You're better off with having a big turtle as a neighbor than having certain people around you.

Oh, Im sure I could put up with you a lot easier than a snapping turtle who might have been trying to lay eggs.  I went through the mulch today looking to see if it laid any eggs as I read they can lay 20-40 eggs and I don't need anymore headaches around the house.  I have enough right now thanks.

if you were a good  friend to him ,say offer him a beer and shell rince  and by all means some,,,,,,turtle wax ,,, to shine up his ride.  then he could cruse off and find a hot turtle lady some where else.
