Heater control valve

Hi, would like to know if you have to drain the Rad to take out the heater control valve on a 70 charger 500, with a/c, 383, it's going to get rebuilt, and what part do i need to connect the hoses together until i get the heater control valve back.  classic air is doing the rebuilt.   Thanks  Sly

You don't have to drain the system. Just take the short hose between the heater control valve and heater core and place it between the two spigots on the water pump. You will only lose coolant down to the level of the lowest open point, which in this case is the top of the water pump.
