Do I need a fuel filter in the line??

I'm still working on my 68 Charger engine to get it ready to put in my Charger - HOPEFULLY- this weekend! I have another question: The fuel line that comes down from the carb has a 2" gap before it continues the line and goes into the fuel pump. Should I put a fuel filter there or is the filter in the carb good enough? If not, I can just put a piece of fuel hose there to close the gap.
I have seen evil! I have seen horror!
I have seen the unholy maggots which feast in the dark recesses of the human soul!
I have seen all this. But until today, I have never seen such a pain in the ars car like this 68 Charger!

yup, they even make a correct appearing mopar logo steel one now that I got form Herb's last year.  For a little more coin, you can get one with a correct date too!

You need a vapor separator between the pump and the pump-to-carb fuel line.  Some people also put a filter either before the pump or after the pump.  I put one before the pump in-line between the steel feed line that goes from the sending unit/tank to the engine compartment and the pump.  It's a Mopar reproduction metal canister filter.
