Looking to get a set of ft/rr shocks for the ole' 'Tona.. What are some recommendations? I haven't bought shocks in a coon-age and have probably gotten behind in technology...

Cheers,

Just did this........I bought KYB's for the front and Monroe air shocks for the back. I run just a bit of air in the rear shocks so the overall ride is just fine.
FLY NAVY/Marine Corps or take the bus!

Just 6T9 CHGR

Had KYB's and found the ride real stiff for my crappy NYC streets....painted up (black) a set of Monroe Classics & never looked back!

Not to pick on you as you are not the first, only, or last person to say this, but yeah, good shocks cost bucks. Shocks are to the suspension system what a cam shaft is to an engine. They determine the operating range and general characteristics of how the system performs and interacts with each other part of the system.  So using that analogy, you can't expect $90 Summit camshaft to to produce the same idle, rpm, and horsepower as using $1000 worth of roller components in the valve train. Shocks are the same way and the difference in feel, performance, driveability, and longevity in a high end shock absorber is eye opening.

Insane is $1000 per shock, but that's where the trick, competition shocks like Nascar Cup guys use start at in price. You know, they have a guy whoses sole job is to dyno tune and dial in the valving in the shocks to produce not only the ideal performance curve but the best compatibility to specific suspension set ups. Naturally that type of technology has trickled down and that's why we can get semi-custom shocks that perform head and shoulders above off the shelf units for only $100 each.

tan top

had monroe gasmatic  on mine  , swapped to KYBs after the resto  , quite a bit stiffer from what i remember of the gasmatics , although have changed quite a bit of suspension since  :yesnod: :scratchchin:
Bilsteins  have used them before ,  prolly get some for the charger one day  :scratchchin:
