Ok,  So I have a Dana with 4:56 gears..... I know I have to change the Spool to a Locker.

So, Any advice.  4:10 good?  May see some track, but 70% would be street.

Tire 30 plus diamerter.(not picked them out yet)

Thanks

Tom

4.10's should work out fine for the street.

In final gear with the tranny at 1:1 you would be spinning 2756 RPM with a 30 inch tire at 60mph
3216 at 70mph

That seams pretty decent to me, especially if you decide to go with a tire bigger than 30 inches

Golden thanks NOW do you have a formula for this?  I would like to know as I will need to pick a converter for this as well.  Or is there a book I should use?

Thanks

Tom

Blown I have seen a calculator at the Richmond Gears web site that lets you play with the variables.

Tom, I just used one of the many automotive calculators out on the web. Here's a link to the one I used, it has many other calculating option on the left hand side of the page   :)

My new Dana has 4.10's   :icon_smile_big: With a taller tire it's the perfect street/strip gear, inmo. Gonna run 29.5in drag radials on the street and 28in slicks at the track. A big blown hemi doesn't need a lot of gear....you'll have plenty of bottom end grunt. Too much torque multiplication will make it very difficult if not impossible to hook.   :Twocents:

Ron, you for the 410 gear then too?  Then what shall one do for a Converter?

Tom, i'm going with a "tight" 9.5in dynamic converter. The 446 made peak tq at 4400 so the 4500 stall dynamic should be just about right. Allthough the 9.5 is rated at 4200, Frank Lupo (Dynamic) felt it will stall around 4500 with the 540 ftlbs of tq this engine made (as measured) on the dyno. Looking forward to testing it out !

It's best to have a dyno sheet available when ordering the converter....easyiest way to get things "right" the first time.   :icon_smile_big:

Here's one more calculator that's pretty good if you realize the infomation that it can give you and you learn how to use it:  http://users.erols.com/dmapes/GEARCLC.HTM

I gotta agree about the not needing much gear, with a blown Hemi I'd be looking into less gear than even 4.10. You'll be braking loose any "street" tire you put on the car..............
