2658457 was used on all forged crank 383s and 440s from 1958-1971.
3614371 was used on standard performance, forged crank, internally balanced 440s in 1972 & 1973 and should work on a forged 383 crank.

so is not true about 383 and 440s being diff damper ?

( the PN change must be for the non offset hole to pulley on lates then )

really great info there... some of it I already had it, but not everything.

but now I have doubts about 3614371 and 3614372. what it could be the diff ?

It looks 3614371 looks to be ideal being I'm trying to fit a cast 383 and non offset pulley, but still what could be the dif with 3614372 ?

The difference is the rods used in the engine.

The 72-73 standard performance 440 used the LY rod and the 3614371 damper.

The 72-73 440HP engines used what are know as 6-pack (or HP) rods and those engines, even though they had forged cranks, used a special damper (3614372) like the 6-pack and 71 440HP engines (damper 3512017).

:2thumbs: Thanks. Sounds logical!

I guess these numbers are CASTED and not SERVICE numbers ?
