My mechanic took apart the 727 to rebuild and found that someone at some point had been in there and apparently put in the wrong torque converter, left a nut or something loose on there that come off and caused some damage, and the pump was bad. He says to buy new parts to replace and rebuild everthing is about $1250 tax and all. Does that sound right?

I'd love to hear the explanation of the exact damage since there is no "nut" on the torque converter.

Even with a rebuilt pump it's pretty hard to spend $400 on parts for a 727 rebuild; so the rest has to be labor. Too high IMHO.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.
