After installing my new sound system I'm putting the interior back together. I'm having a hell of a time getting the console mounted squarely. There are no cables or other obstructions that would change the way it sits but its still twisted. I've tried shimming it but the console door still rubs or binds. Any ideas gang?

Edit: I negelected to mention that the console door has always binded.

spent lot time making sure mine  fitted  need to take it all to bits even the hinge  , and start again !!  to get  it fitting good  , but its when you screw it to the floor or should i say floor brackets !  that causes the door to  become misaligned , needs to be shimmed to the floor  to keep it in same position out of car ! if that makes sense

( never did finish shimming  mine to the floor , as it was the second to last thing to put back if i remember & just wanted to get it done   :slap:) but thats what it needs  :yesnod:

The console has never been repaired and its the original. What I did notice is the wood grain applique on the console door doesn't match the wood grain on the rest of the console. Same color almost but no grain match. I called OO and asked him if the console door had ever been replaced, he said no. The only thing I can think of is the original door was damaged while the car was being serviced at some point in its life. Then the dealership swapped it out hoping the owner wouldn't notice........and he didn't!
I got the console in today and shimmed the drivers side so when I put a torpedo level on it perpendicular to its length its level. Door still binds, acorn nuts are lose but I can get it to close if I carefully center the door. It looks like I'm going to have to somehow shave a bit off each end of the console door to get it to close properly. I found some slightly smaller acorn nuts as well to repair the hinge slop.:shruggy:
