Cheapest gas here is $4.25/gal.  It's been going up .05 to .10 cents per week for the last month.  It forced me to change jobs.  I went from a 2 hour commute per day to a 3 minute commute per day.  I should save around $400.00 per month on my gas bill.

Times like this make me NOT miss my truck one bit, the tank was getting 13 ish MPG and that was driving it easy. 05 HEMI 4X4 SC not that gas mileage was a selling point as you expect poor MPG with a pickup or I did. It just would cost just over $100 for a fill up now @ 26 gallons that last 2 weeks for me.The Jeep will cost $63 for the same two weeks. That still sucks but for me it is OK as I only drive 13 miles round trip each day to work.

You would think that would work , but the fact is the Oil Companies shut down plants when there is less demand. This keeps the "demand " the same. They pretty much admitted to this already. Then , we can talk about Global demand increasing and we are on a Global Market.

I saw something on tv Monday that Mobil, Exxon, and BP are making 41% profit on the gas prices right now. So this is all fake crap there giving us for raising the prices. What I wanna know, is how come everyone is quiet about it now. Two years ago, everyone was in a big uproar about it, and they finally went down. I don't agree that everyone thinks there's nothing we can do about it. We can. We just gotta complain as one country to our governments, go on a world wide strike, whatever it takes. But no one has the balls to do it.

Everyone can take a small bit of responsibility.  Cut back consumption.

I did for years when I coordinated to commute with coworkers (25 miles each way) and then moved 2.5 miles from my office.  I personally have cut my gasoline use by over 50%.  My 2 V-8 cars still get driven and I'm not hurting because of gas prices

A member here bought a used motorcycle to drive in with instead of the Ram.  Most likely cut his daily consumption by 60-70%

Trade in the daily driver F-250 / Dodge 2500 / Expedition.

Speculators have driven the gas prices up. :RantExplode: Based on barrel prices gas should really be under 2.50 a gallon.

Umm, I highly doubt those profit numbers. Even when Exxon was making billions in profit per quarter they were still at/near 10% profit.

Expecting government to intelligently do anything is pretty much what got us into most of the messes we're in.

I'm not here to defend any oil company, but at least let's all get the correct facts. And then put it into perspective.

Exxon runs at an 8.89% net profit margin, this is an audited figure for 2010. It was 6.8% in 2009. It never has been, nor will it ever be, 41%. That is simply factually incorrect. Basic financial research will obtain any company's profit accounting. But then TV (and today's journalists (alleged)) would never bother with fact checking.

The 8.89% is significantly less than Microsoft, Cisco, ATT, Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, etc etc. There are hundreds of companies with greater profits (net and percentage measurements). There are numerous industries with average profits double that of oil (tech first and foremost). We all pay grossly higher rates per unit for bottled water and nail polish than gasoline.

Just saying.

So bash Exxon for the 8.89% but not for the factual error of 41%. But first let's do something about printer ink cartridge pricing and Microsoft software. Now that is a crime if there ever was one.

My prices are $4.19 to $4.39 here in Northern California by the way.  :eek2:

yeah. i paid $4.17 in burlingame yesterday... but our water bill is doubling soon, you see that?..  supposedly because we've been using less, the last few years they've been saying it's because of a supposed drought, but now this year has broken all the rainfall records :shruggy: So now they say we haven't been using enough...  :RantExplode:

:iagree: I'm glad gasoline isn't priced like printer ink.   You can almost buy a new printer with a new cartridges on sale for what they want for a replacement cartridge.  Too bad it doesn't work like that for a tank of gas in a car

Actually, you can! Cartridges for my $25 printer are $32 each (black and color are separate). Needless to say, I have about 7 printers. I'm getting ready to splurge on a laser printer though so the ink won't dry out. Since I only print maybe 20-30 pages per year it's cheaper to just print things elsewhere.
