I've had my share of these encounters too, with my '69 charger, but by far, the one that caught me off guard the most....

I'm working on the car in my driveway with the hood up.  My oldest son is helping me.  A couple kids on bikes ride by and stop and one starts asking questions.

Now, this kid was maybe 7 or 8 years old, and he starts in with "'69 charger right" and I say yup, and he says "b5 blue originally huh?" and I say yup, and he says "318?" and I say originally yup, and he says "440 now though eh?" and I say yep, he says "did you upgrade the torsion bars and put a bigger sway bar on the front?" and "what about the brakes, did you put discs on it 'cause this probably came with drums?" and "you know those front seats are wrong, don't ya?"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The kid knew as much or more about mopars as I did (probably more).  Turns out, after I questioned his vast knowledge, that his dad had owned 3 different chargers and taught him all about them.

That kid knew more about my car just riding by on his bike than almost every grown up who has asked me about it when I was out driving it around!

Kinda restores your faith in the future of our youth huh?

Yeah, I wish more kids were interested.  Luckily, my kids both tend to lean towards real muscle/retro cars (the oldest is more of a mustang guy, I tried to convert him, but he's sure he wants a '67), but many of their friends could care less if they ever get ANY car.

That kid though, he really knew his stuff and seemed genuninely interested.  I have no doubt he will own some classic mopar metal in the future.  Cudos to his dad.

I teach and show my 11 year old son everything that I do on the mopars and he too will carry the torch as it were  :icon_smile_wink:

Ahhh.... The passing of the torch! How nice.
I wanted to have kids, but the first wife didnt want them and my NOW wife cant. I have only nephews to hand off my cars to, but I doubt that they will care.
At 45 and in great health, I hope to have another 30+ years to enjoy the Charger and the A bodies I have or WILL have. By the time I am 70, the Charger will be 65 years old! Ever think about THAT ? I am in no hurry to get old, but I think it will be funny to be a tire burning, corner drifting geezer!

I like to think that one day, my son and daughter will hand the keys to their sons/ daughters and so on and so on.
I am constantly reminding them of how special and irreplaceable these cars really are and to make sure that no matter what, they need to take better care of them than I do.... :smilielol:

DAY CLONA

My Favorite "story",  was when I was down Alabama with my Daytona, fueling up, some rednecks came out and asked "what is it"?,...I replied, "A Daytona", seeing that one of them could read the roof script, he said, "naw, it's a Charger", then proceded to tell his buddy that I added that big wing and kore-vette nose,....so I made the mistake of correcting them on how it was done like that by the factory,....so bubba put 2+2 together and came up with the idea of how it was an "op-shun" on the Charger, then proceded to tell me his brother had a Charger, but it had the General Lee "op-shun", not the Daytona "op-shun",....to top it off the girl that worked in the gas station then came out to tell me that she loved my "kore-vette" ::)
