I am liking the shot with the trunk lit open and the top rubber seal floating in mid air  This might just be the first Challenger held together entirely by the remaining upholstery. :smilielol:

did they ever start selling those "new" challenger/cuda body's   :scratchchin:

They'd say " Come back when you have a car for us to work on."

The car is too far gone when your wallet and will can no longer support it.

My car needed pretty much everything replaced. hood, front valance, 1 fender, (Other one I replaced in the 90's) drivers side frame rail, upper cowl, roof skin, full floor,  both doors , both quarters, both rockers, 1 door striker jamb, sail panels, rear window opening and dutch man panel, rear wheel wells, both rear frame rails,  trunk lid, gutters, tail panel, rear bumper brace and rear valance.
Might have been easier to say what didn't need replacing....

I spread this over about 7 or 8 years.

There's some truth.

The amazing thing on this 72 Challenger is that the trunk floor is still mostly there ! I mean compared to most Mopars in this condition all you see is the rear axle. :eek2:

At least the Vin tag will be original when its done...  :icon_smile_big:

Yes...but a more practical limit may be one that breaks in half if towed.  Where is that picture....

:o. Wow, that hurts seeing the condition of that challenger.  What a shame.   :'(

The answer to the question varies. It depends on the persons finances and skill level. I don't want anything to do with any car that has even one major frame rail that is rotted. There are guys that can afford or have the skills to completely refurbish a car from totally rotted carcass...I am not one of those guys. I understand my limitations and accept them. There are plenty that do not. They get in way over their heads..unable to do the work themselves, unable to afford to have it done..the cars sit in pieces forever. The best intentions alone do not get the job done.

We can do it again in this thread if you want but I think you already know where I stand.  You don't actually restore anything when you do it that way, you just clone it and add the original serial numbers.

And what's wrong with that?  If someone wants the car that bad, it needs a VIN.

My xp29 made every car in this thread look great. The RT I have now isn't much better aside from it still held itself together where the xp29 broke apart. I'm on process now of getting it ready for a partial roof structure replacement.

I love that pic of that Challengers trunk, even the tire iron is rusted out! :smilielol: Time for that poor car to go to the Coke can factory.

i've seen some pretty toasted chargers come back on this forum alone, its kinda hard to draw a line between restorable and not  :scratchchin:

I have seen some amazing work on this site.... cars with hardly anything left be restored. But I think the answer to that question is different for each individual, some may like the challenge of replacing everything... maybe the car has some sentimental value... some may pass on a major project due to budget reasons. It all depends on what the car is worth to you. I caught hell a few years back because I parted an RT, it was rusty but had good rails (this was back before the AMD repops). The car was worth more to me as a parts car, I used a lot of the stuff on my RT, sold off extra stuff on ebay, CL, etc. I kept a lot of the parts, and made 2/3rds of my investment back selling spare stuff. So yes it was technically 'restorable', but to me it wasn't, made more since to part it.... because if I didn't I would have 2 unfinished RT projects around, instead of a finished car.

mpdlawdog

The problem with that challenger is its a 72..not very popular in terms of the "value"  (I know...my car is the sister car to that...yellow 340 rally 4 speed car)  if it were a 70-71 rt or 340 car Id say go for it......you will have WAY more in it than it will ever be worth.... :Twocents:.....I am in the process of switching mine over to a 70 t/a clone just because I like the looks better
