Holiday? The only holiday I see on the calendar Monday is the beginning of "Eastern Orthodox Lent" so unless the guy is a staunch Orthodox he's probably working.

Around here every day's a Carnival day.

In the USA it's called Mardi Gras. New Orleans closes down and parties. The rest the country pretends to party, but just poor imitations of the Big Easy.

If my employees asked for Fat Tuesday off I would have to just laugh.

I would give them Tuesday and Wednesday (a recovery day) off, and just have them work the following weekend. With no overtime pay, of course. I'm a very accommodating boss.... :icon_smile_wink:

well I know about the Mardi Gras in New Orleans, but thought it was also a holyday all around USA like in the rest of the world ( or allmost all the rest of the world )

You "would" but do you?  :icon_smile_wink:

I give them all kinds of paid and unpaid days off, I just got to draw a line somewhere.

Of course I'm taking off on Friday March 11. It's the Day of Lithuanian Independence (my people threw out the Soviets: Lietuvos nepriklausomybės atkūrimo diena). So maybe we just close the office for the whole week.

Nope. Not here for the most part: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mardi_Gras_in_the_United_States

You wouldn't know it by the amount the US produces but we're still the most overworked people in the world: http://20somethingfinance.com/american-hours-worked-productivity-vacation/

I haven't had a vacation in three years.

I've had to reserve my vacation this year for the last 2 years and my boss isn't happy about me being gone three weeks in a row.  He would prefer a take a week here and a week there.

One of my co-workers was written up for being gone for two weeks because he needed to help out his dad that fell off the roof and broke his hip. He turned in his two week notice last week.

No Carnival days in California

I got mad at my boss the other day because we wouldn't let me off work the following day to watch my kids. We had a sitter lined up in advance but then she had an emergency at home the day before. Even though I purposely roll over two weeks of vacation every year while most guys have burned theirs four months in, I still couldn't take a day off to watch my own kids. :flame: I told him I might as well burn my vacation up by August like those other guys if I can't use it when I need it.

Wow! You guys have tough bosses. :rotz:  I have to say that mine is much more easy going, though I took 3 weeks off last August and he requested that I never do that again   As far as time off, we are very slow and they cut us down to four 8-hour days per week. Let's say I'm getting a lot done on the Charger!

Carnival is not a real holiday here... nor should it be.

Here we have St. Patricks day on March 17...   which SHOULD be a holiday.      But typically,  we micks get oppressed.   :slap:    There needs to be some movement on this in my lifetime... either make Stl Paddys a holiday or take away Columbus day...   either or.   :RantExplode:

Then we can address other johnny come lately special interests' holidays.

Yes, I remember that story!  When St Patrick drove all the serpents from Ireland, he put them on a boat headed west and the serpents discovered America!  And that's why St Patrick's day should be a US holiday.  And, as a typical US holiday, we'll make it a Monday holiday so it's a three day weekend (except it will be a 4 day weekend for the Irish, who'll be too hung over to make it into work on Tuesday.)
