FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SPEED ORIGINAL SERIES PROJECT CAR STOLEN

The hit SPEED 'how-to' series, Chop Cut Rebuild received a setback to its production schedule this week, courtesy of car thieves in Riverside, Calif. On Sunday night around 11p.m., PT thieves drove off in a vehicle which was scheduled to become the next project for the television series seen on SPEED. Chop Cut Rebuild is about to begin production of its eighth season and will be filming extensively at ABD Racing in Riverside beginning in March.
The series creator, host and Executive Producer, Dan Woods purchased the 1972 Volkswagen Beetle in December from an impound yard to use as a restoration project on the show. The car was being used by Woods' daughter, who drove it to meet friends for dinner at the Marriott Hotel in downtown Riverside and when she left the restaurant, discovered it was missing from the side street parking area.

"It was a fun little car. It took us a while to find one mechanically sound and also in need of drastic repair," says Woods. "I think the thieves are going to be in for a surprise when they see the car in the light of day. It isn't worth very much – there's a great deal missing from the car. It has no heater system, the floors are rusted and there wasn't even a radio in it. They would have been much better off waiting until we finished it. Then they'd have a prize." The search for a replacement vehicle will begin immediately. "Hopefully, this won't have an effect on our schedule. It's an annoyance but, it happens," stated Woods.

Chop Cut Rebuild is seen across North America every weekend on SPEED and on weekday afternoons. Show times and dates can be seen at: http://www.speedtv.com/schedule/filter/program/806962/

FYI... This was not one of the primary projects for next season. We are making a one-hour special for SPEED called "American Seduction - Beetlemania".

I have a pic of the car, if anyone would like to post it for me, I can send it in an email.

Dan, you can post it yourself from the bottom of the reply box where it says "Browse". Click on it, and find the file on your computer, click on it and the address will show up in the box, then click the "Post" button. It should show up in your post.

Sorry about your car by the way. :rotz:

She doesn't want to wait until I finish it. ;) Plus, if she can drive that thing, she'll be able to drive anything. First cars should always be a POS... They're the most fun!

Mechanically, the car is very sound. New brake drums, shoes, carb rebuilt, half-shafts, wipers, tires, electrical, it was pretty solid that way. Plus, she only ever takes it a few miles at a time. Next time, she'll park it out in the open more, instead of on a side street.

The upside to all this is, we're getting far more press from it than the car was ever worth!

Got a call from the San Bernardino PD at 3am. The car was found on a side street up there. No damage (how could they tell?). Sounds like someone just wanted the experience and pure driving pleasure of being behind the wheel of a performance vehicle. :smilielol:

Glad the car was recovered with all of its pieces it had before.
