I thought I would post  this here so the DC members can follow along. This is customers car, with one primary goal in mind. Make it driveable once again.
As a long time owner of this car , he wants his old ride back and has entrusted me with me with the task.

Car in question is a 1969 Carger R/T 440 console auto and factory air. Body and paint are and have been done for a couple years  when I picked it and have .  Color is  the 1968 Buffed silver metallic , black vinyl top and interior. And I have to admit, I like it.
So follow along and feel free to ask questions as this goes forward.

I'll post updates and pictures as it goes forward.

This is a basically what I started with after a bit of clutter removal on both the interior and underhood.

Enjoy

Good luck, hope to hear you get your Charger out this year.   :2thumbs:
When your Charger is sideways, just give it more gas!

After dis-assembling the top end of the engine it was found to be a bit lower on compression than really desired. So the heads are out to be machined down just a bit and once the thin steel head gaskets are in place compression should be in the 9-3 range. And thats a good thing.
So, I turned my attention to a few of the underhood components.

I managed to find a correct disc brake master cylinder locally. Combinded with the freshly done Bendix power booster back from Booster Dewey. The assembly had to be done in the correct black to emulate the original appearence.

The paint was still wet when this last one was taken so it appears to be a lot shinnier than it really is.

After a trip thru the glass bead cabinet , now in primer

gtx6970

The master cylinder was already in bare steel, so I just wiped it down with laquer thinner before hitting it with some primer as well along with the re-inforcement plate

Then once assembled , everything was shot with about 85-90% dulled gloss black. It was still wet when this was taken so it appears to be a lot glossier than it really is.

Next up, the nasty looking heater - A/C blower motor

gtx6970

Once dis-assembled and a brief trip thru the blasting cabinet as well . The motor was then bench tested to make sure it worked. Then everything was primered and repainted to emulate something close to OE appearence without going completely overboard.

All back together with new attaching hardware and a new cooling tube in place,,, it was ready to go back in the car.

It's on the lift and the engine/ transmission K-frame assy will be out of it by mid-afternoon. Spent the day today cleaning up the replacement ft brakes .
It's an original Bendix 4 piston car , but is being upgraded to a more modern single piston brake system. And the bendix stuff will be put on the shelf.

That blower motor came out great Bill!  that is one of my projects on the to do list.
What color did you use for the motor?  Never really checked but do you have to have the inside box out to get it out?

Also was this car you are working on originally B5?

Damn, don't look so close.

Bill, could you take a picture of the top of the drivers side inner fender by the hinge area? I need to know the how far forward the hole ro holes are for the clips that hold the headlight harness. Thanks, Mark

It looks more like B7 to me

The blower motor color is an enamel paint called 'chrome'. I think it's Krylon. But I'll ck tomorrow for sure. I found and used it for the insides of tail light housings . and thought it looked pretty good or close enough for this application. And I like it.
But no, the blower motor comes out without doing a thing to the box on the interior side. just remove 3 little 1/4" hex screws from the ring on the engine compartment side and pull it out. Leave the 7/16" hex nuts on there or you will pull the motor out and leaving the squirrel cage in the box, trust me. It doesn't hurt anything but you still have to remove the 3 hex screws to get the ring and seal off.

Thanks Bill!

It's so much easier to work on it out here. And the shortblock is already on the stand . Heads are already back from the machine shop . I had them milled .015". to stay on the safe side. They had already been milled some and not knowing how much,,,, I went with .015 to make sure there are no intake sealing issues. Now just waiting  on the steel head gaskets. Gotta degree in the cam and straighten out the dented oil pan. Repaint and detail everything then back in it goes.
