73 Charger, Holley carb, high idle

Bought the charger this fall and took it out for a drive today (around 25degrees F here) and when I got it back it was idling at around 2500 when it usually goes at about 1200. I tried adjusting the idle speed screw but doesn't seem to have any effect. Also made sure the gas throttle was all the way back down and not stuck up. It has a Holley avenger carb in it and haven't run into this while I've had it to date

Is there anything common I should check next?

I'd assume the return spring has been checked??

Is it staying on fast idle? Check the fast idle linkage and the choke. Sounds to me like it has not come off choke and fast idle.

Yep checked return spring.

Read through the holley manual tonight and will tinker with it more tomorrow.

It doesn't seem like it's just stuck on fast idle because usually the fast idle was around 1600 and now it's idling at around 2500 and around 1500 when in gear when that was around 600-700 before.

You checked the dizzy isn't loose?
It may have turned a little if it was while you were driving and that could raise your revs..........?

Have you looked at the throttle blades to be sure they are not stuck open and close all the way? If the blades are closed at "idle" and it's still running high RPMs, it's got to be getting air in from somewhere else, which would make me suspect a vacuum leak. Check all of your hoses and connections and make sure nothing is cracked/ brittle or came loose.
