For anyone looking for a 3rd gen., claims to be rare.  (not my car or ad) Just sounded like some nice options.

I like how he says he needs to sell it to catch up on bills but he will trade it for a four wheeler    :smilielol:

Heh, yeah I caught that too.  I guess he only needs part of it for bills.  Gotta have your priorities straight!

Dans 68

He said partial trade, meaning he will take cash and another vehicle. :popcrn:

A 440 4-speed '71 sounds nice....

That is maybe 10 miles from me at the most, just dont want/need it. Am I wrong thinking 10.5k is too much for that tho? Even tho its a '1 of 48', triple black, 440, 4 speed and all that. I still feel 7.5 or so with all the stuff that looks like it needs

Apparently the Dana is MIA. So it definetly is overpriced. With The Dana it might have been a maybe.

I think Chrysler stopped using Dana rears during the 72 model year.  Correct me if I am wrong??

I'm pretty sure that one has been for sale since the beginning of summer. Too far for me to be interested.

They still had them in 72 since you could still get 440 4 speed cars in 73, it changed this car being a 440 4 speed 71 should have
A Dana rear end.

Looks like a very cool car. With the Dana I think it might be worth the asking price.

I don't think so unless there were some unofficial one-offs that slipped through assembly early in the production run. The Dana 60 was no longer available in a passenger car after 72, hence no 440 4speeds in passenger cars 1973+. If you wanted a 440 you got a 727 and an 8-3/4 axle.

Mike, I tried to edit my original post but for some reason could not  :flame: what I meant was no 4 speed 440 cars from 73 on (only Auto's) Therefore, no dana's sorry for my sketchy Grammer! I think the 9.1/4 came in 74? Basically what I was trying to say was Yes, you could get a 440-4 speed dana in 72 but not after that. Too Bad the Dana's missing on this car I prefer the 8.3/4 for it's easy Gear swaps and weight loss over the Dana.

until you've "lunched" a few 8 3/4 rears with a 440 and 4-speed, you won't miss the Dana 60....

Agreed but, I still have to ask, how many have you actually lunched?

Three (3)..First one was in HS(4-speed)...Second one was after college (4-speed)..
Third one was in the Dart (Auto?)...Around 2004, with a hard launch and a set of Super sticky , slicks...(1.5 60 Ft.) All of 'em had axles beginning to twist, but then again, unless you upgrade the Dana's axles, that will still be a concern..I prefer to drive a straight gear like my brothers philosophy...

If your front end drops between shifts, you just lost the race...

So it was axle failure not differential itself?  Asking because the 8.75 gets a bad rap sometimes, not so much in the Mopar camp but outside of us there are a few who dis it too easily IMO.

Surprizingly enough, no..The axles were still alive and well, albeit twisted, but still there...All my failures were in the differential...Usually, the center carrier and spider gear area...Hard to tell which went first when your looking at an 8 3/4 rear that looks like a hand granade went off inside it...

Hi. Hard to see from the pics if it has the buldge hood with louvers and there should be louvers on the doors if its a R/T :shruggy:

They may have went the way of the original Dana 60.....

Having the Dana M.I.A is only a bad thing when it comes to a car like this IMO. I think the Louvered Doors are still there
You can see better in the other Pic.

Sooo....

What does anybody think would be a 'good' price for this car? I have a 4x4 pickup I can't get a reasonable price for, but would be an awesome trade...and I'm driving it to Michigan sometime in the next 2 months.
If I bought this car it would be to flip (eventually) What would it be worth with a thorough but not Concourse restoration?

Here's what this guy wants for a restored plum crazy purple one on eBay right now ($48K):

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1971-DODGE-CHARGER-R-T-440-4-SPEED-FRAME-OFF-RESTORED-/290514882332?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item43a4094f1c

Markets down and all, but there's something to be said for a triple black 440 six-pack four speed Charger RT . . .

He's asking what, $10.5K and it's missing the original Dana rear axle? Assuming it's legit, all other numbers match, all other components are there, and the things not a total rust bucket, i.e. frame rails and most sheet metal is good, I don't think his price is far off at all, especially if you can knock the cost of the car down another $2-3K with a truck or four-wheeler in trade.

Of course, more pictures would help us all out a lot in this case. The two he has up there are pretty generic.

But I've seen people wanting close to that much, i.e. $6-8K for rusty old 440 four barrel powered Charger RTs with automatic transmissions - and let's not even get into the prices that people are asking for crusty old second gen projects.  :eek2:

tricky lugnuts

Oh - and car I linked to on eBay isn't even a V-code six pack RT - just a 4 barrel four speed car.

Of course, whether he gets $48K is another question altogether . . . He probably would have a few years ago.

But I'd say you could SAFELY plan on getting $25K or $30K and up on a reasonably restored 1971 V code Charger with a four speed, at a very minimum, just to play it safe.

SO assuming you give him his full asking price, that leaves you $15K for resto work to break even.

I only say that low ball price of $25K because some people, even here on DodgeCharger.com don't seem to appreciate third gens as much as much as second gens. Even though they're better cars!  :nana:

If this was a Cuda or a 1970 Charger with the V code and a four speed, and just the original Dana rear axle missing, I don't think people would be quibbling about the $10,500 price so much, or at all frankly.  :Twocents:
