Tracing your Geneology

I've been tracing my family lineage off and on for the last ten years.
Back in 2000, I went to my local Provincial Archive and found lots of interesting information regarding births, deaths and marriages for the last 150 years.
Recently, I've found most of this same information (to a lesser descriptive degree) on line at various web pages.

Apparently, it appears my family (McQueen) immigrated from Ireland, rather than the commonly accepted origins of Scotland. This might explain my propensity for Guinness draught!

I've been thinking about "buying into" www.Ancestery.com (.ca) for awhile now, but it seems like such a scam.
Has anybody had any luck with this website?

As well, I'm looking for a FREE family tree program (maybe I am Scottish after all?).

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) has the largest repository of genelogical records in the world and access is free - rather that paying for access to "Ancestry.com".  They also have a free software program called "Personal Ancestral File" that you can download.  Could be much of the research has already been done on your family line and has already been linked.

I downloaded the Family Tree program and have already inputted 5 generations of family into it.
THe records search....well, not a lot to find there - yet, but I have a log-in and plan to explore all of it's possibilities!

I've said it before - if you want to know what's in your family tree just run for political office.  Someone else will do all the research for free.
