I agree with folks here - I would not recommend taking that car on.

You have a nice big shop. Push it up in the corner and stack all the parts in it. Wait until you can save up enough for a decent starter and then you will have a parts car. When you are done, you can sell off what is not used. The value of having a full parts car cannot be understated. You'd be suprised at how many do-dads and miscellaneous things you can grab and save $$$ on a more realistic project.

As a bonus, this way you have a Charger until a better project can be afforded.

well, i know my charger is pretty much a donor car now.. posting a few pics of my progress of the stripping work.  Its almost complete minus the engine/tranny, front suspension/rear suspension and axle, driveshaft and parking brake assembly.  pretty much everything else is stripped  :icon_smile_wink   I think I'll hang on to everything except the body shell for now..  Am going to leave the front suspension and rear axle on the car along with the K-member.  Slapping a price of 650 on the that as a whole.  Hope to have the engine tranny out in a short time.  then its up for whoever wants it.. ill post further on that.

probably the last pics ill post of the ole 68 I saved from a run down tractor shed in Iowa..... at least I could save it from being forgotten... cheers all, thanks for the kind words and advice even though it didnt work out..  Now that I have my G-Ma supporting me with a loan, i can pick and choose now.
Rest In Pieces '68 charger #1  I did have high hopes for you.. Once I get another charger and know what it does/doesnt need, I could have me a mini swap meet or something  :icon_smile_big:  cheers all!  I like this forum and plan to be here a long while

I won't be wronged, I wont be Insulted and I wont be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to others, and I require the same from them.

Something I am sure you learned from the first one is make sure the next one it is a solid as possible. To me that's priority #1 then the 2nd thing is a complete car even if you have a bunch of parts, those can be sold if not needed. Plenty of Chargers to choose from so try and not get caught up in the moment and buy the next one you look at, bring the GF at least.
If at all possible post the Chargers info here, cept the sellers contact number, and we will pick the hell out of it. You can be assured we will steer you the right way or make every attempt to.

  HAPPY HUNTING!

let me know on that charger body im interested in it

KSChrgr68

going to slap the remaining 2 magnum wheels on the front and 2 steel wheels that came with it on the back axle, going to prop the front and rear axle up with some 2x4s under the body to help hold up the body, trying to get it into rolling chassis status so it can be more easily retrieved and transported.  able to get the front drums rolling, they were locked up pretty bad..  rear is rolling ok..   :yesnod:

:o  I just read this whole thread...was hoping you would stick with it but like everyone was saying you are better off getting something else.  Sad thing is it probably wasn't that bad when it was parked in that Iowa shed.  Good luck with your search for another

just a warning-even if you get a "done"/"restored" charger, have PLENTY of "in case shit" money because things will crap out, gremlins will pop up and sometimes one right after the other. it comes with the territory, there are no guarantees. I've had this happen to 2 out of 3 of the Chargers I've owned and the one that didn't have mechanical issues, needed body work. have enough money set aside to say, get a running but not excellent 3rd gen.

planning on getting one as close to drivable as i can.  Im trying to find one in the 9-11k range, I know itll need some work at that price but I've seen a couple that are reasonable.  If anyone knows where I can pick one up for that price range let me know, I'm up for anything thatll point me in the right direction. :)

They are out there you just have to keep looking & have the CASH ready to be able to get the good deals. No loans that may not go through or borrowing money from someone, cash in hand. Seems many deals fall apart because the buyer can't get the money. Your budget should get a good & driveable 318 2nd gen but will be something that will still need work.

funds arent a problem, most ive seen are clone RTs but even thats an option, almost able to pick up an RT for around 10k but didnt work out.  Almost anything out there is in better condition than the one I have now, so im considering just about everything I see if the bodywork is at a minimum

I agree completely with this, loans are too much of a hassle. Places like JJ BEST want you to jump through hoops to get the money and by then the charger is gone. I'm looking for a 2nd gen Charger in that same price range too.

KSChrgr68

loan is a family loan, all i have to do is find the car, poof a few days later i can go get the funds and take care of business, low interest, good repayment structure :) the bank of G-ma is the best one around

Do you have a Harbor Freight in the Wichita area?

Good place for engine stands, cherry pickers & the like.

Good luck with your hunt.

KSChrgr68

we have a harbor freight in wichita, but me and dad went to the new Northern Tool store that just opened up.  Got a Torin brand 1 ton engine hoist there, dad has an engine stand he built himself years ago thats up north in storage, going to go get it :)  read the reviews on the hoist, seems it makes a great hoist for doing mopar work :)  here's a link to it on the northern tool site, i like the fact it folds up for storage, about perfect for my shop  http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200305491_200305491   :2thumbs:

that car in Troy has been for sale forever, hasnt it?

I was looking at that R/T in Salem but it looked too cheap to be real..did someone here buy it?

KSChrgr68

i offered on the car in troy, but the owner wont budge from 12500, said they want to get what they paid for it, i told em, good luck with that, have a nice day. lol  I also offered 9k for the salem MO car, but the guy sold it to some overseas soldier for less than I offered.  Thing is he kept me in the loop on the sale even though he had already sold it... craigslist.. pfft
