FUEL PUMP PUSHROD

What size socket do I need to get the plug out of the block to remove the fuel pump pushrod.

Pretty sure its a 3/8" Allen head socket

3/8 is too big.  Way to big.
5/16 is a little loose.  I was afraid to pull too hard on it.  I know it'll round it out.  Is there something special I'm missing or what.

Try a 8mm Allen head.

if it rounds out inside, use a spiral type easy out to remove it...then replace it with a new one

On my 69 440 it took a 5/16 allen head socket to get out the factory pipe plug, I had to buy the socket just for it, over the years yours could have been changed or gotten damaged by using the wrong size allen socket.

Years ago when I rebuilt the engine, well freshened it up with new rings and bearings, the block was sent to the machine shop to be dipped (in whatever that stuff is).  I think they widened some oil gallerys and changed the freeze plugs, they probably did pipe plug too?

Well the snap-on dealer didn't think they made a 11/32 allan socket, so I got the 9mm, not even close.  Looks like it's been rounded out.  I've tried welding to it, no luck.  I'm leary of using the easy outs.  I don't want metal fillings getting into the engine.

Any other ideas.

Oh yeah, here in Ontario Canada that one 9mm socket cost almost $28!!!  WOW

they make an easy-out set that fits into a socket that has spiral left hand threads on the end...one of those shoulf fit into the rounded out allen head hole..no drilling required

I never have been able to remove it. Still with factory rod on block. EXTREMELLY STUCK

There ain't nuthin' that a torch and a little heat apllied in the right area and amount won't get a loose...Try puttin' a little heat round the plug and see if it'll come loose.

just be careful, and make sure your fuel pump hose is capped off and tight...gas fumes go boom sometimes

Yea, depends on where is from...Venezuelan fuel might just break out into a fiesta, while petrol from England tends to just break out into a game of cricket, American gas though is the type that tends to just explode

Stap on truck!  haha that a good one.  I'll post some pictures of the ...............actually I won't the spiral left handed thread tools I have do require drilling.

What do you do with them?  Tap (hammer) them into the rounded hole?

yup...find one that just fits into rounded out hole, tap in with hammer...left hand threads will bit into part harder as you turn it out.....
