1970 Rear shoulder seat belts for B-Body

How rare is the 1970 Rear shoulder seat belts for a B-Body. I have just seen my first set & thought that must be pretty rare???

rare sight on a charger or any b-body come to that !!  only set i have seen , in real life !!  is on a 69 Satalite   from memory   a couple of others on the net ebay & stuff

I can't give you an exact number but as far as rarity, a pretty accurate answer to the "how rare" question is VERY.

I found a set locally, complete. Including everything to install them. What are they worth? he was going to sell them to me. Just want to make it fair on both sides.

Maybe I'm off base here but considering they are made from unobtainium and you will probably never find another complete set for sale, I think $1000.00 would be fair.  Heck, maybe even more. I'm sure someone would jump after them for that price though.  What's he asking?

My dad's 69 Charger R/T S.E. had tan leather interior with tan seat belts and BLACK rear shoulder belts..  Car now is in Michigan..

Maybe I'm off base here but considering they are made from unobtainium and you will probably never find another complete set for sale, I think $1000.00 would be fair.  Heck, maybe even more. I'm sure someone would jump after them for that price though.  What's he asking?

He was asking less than a 1/3 of that initially but now he is up near that amount. I know I should of jumped at them when I had the chance. I hesitated due to I didn't have the money at that time. I figured no sense in wasting money i really didn't have to spare on something that will probably never get used.

Hard to tell from the pics I have seen of cars that had this option. Are they the same exact style as all of the other belts in the car or are they actually a different style or brand?

Very rare indeed, especially in a '70.. I think they were more numerous in the '71/'72's.......... Too bad he caught wind of the value/rarity it seems.............  Now it's up to you and an expensive "show-off" piece...

That is what got me thinking. Its not coded on my fender tags but my build sheet looks to have it (very faint but it looks like it was coded for it). I can see where they once were. My package tray had the holes in it at one time.

from what i have seen , &  not actually seen them out the car on the floor or in hand !! the lap part is or looks the same as  front & the shoulder rear  looks the same    just with a different ankor point or lack of it !! could prolly make something up to duplicate   ?? , $1000 , thats a lot for belts  to me   i know nothing like the original part but .......

I don't think it would be coded on the fender tag but it still sounds like a lot.  Ultra rare but I still think it would depend on the rest of the cars options before I'd hunt a set down.  So much for "fair for both sides" huh?

Unfortunately rare parts are the most expensive.  Personally if I had a car coded for the belts I would think $1000.00 would be very fair to get the car back to original.  Look at the cost for a nice set of original fronts, not cheap but still very obtainable!  If the car wasn't coded for it I wouldn't bother putting them in.  I will say that I have never seen one of these in a 1970 before and would think it would draw some attention at shows.  Neat conversation piece that really sets your car apart from the rest.  Good luck with the deal, but I bet if they make it to e-bay $1000.00 may not look to bad looking back. Just my $.02

I agree with you.  I meant that for me it would depend on the car.  If I were restoring something rare or loaded up with other options and it was coded for them, I would want them.  But if I were doing up a car for my own tastes and it was a 318 or 383 car and the shoulder belts were the only option, I think I would spend my money on other things.  I'm not even sure I'd spend it if I were doing an RT.  Maybe, maybe not.  Start into the Hemi stuff or a car with every other option under the sun and you are almost obligated.

Yes, my car is loaded with everything under the sun so it would be nice to get these belts. The only option it seems to be missing is the sunroof option. Of course money is always an issue. Still working on him for a fair negotiated price.
My car is a R/T S.E. 440, 727, 8-3/4 3:55 car with charcoal console bucket seat, S.E. package, califi car with emissions still on it, A/C, cruise, power steering, power windows, Am/8-track radio, 6 way seat, power disc brakes, light package, bright package, rear defrost, door edge guards, lip mouldings, rocker mouldings, frt bumper guards, hood pins, blackout hood treatment, 440 on hood (took them off), luggage rack, R/T door scoops, blk vinyl top, dual mirrors, Originall B3 blue with dark blue long stripe with full wheel covers, now is red with blk butt stripe & 15" Rallye's. Also has a power antenea & power trunk that both have Chysler written on them & Chrysler part #'s that I beleive was not supposed to be on a Charger but they were on the car 20 years ago when I bought it.

I am interested to see how they mounted the power (vacumn) trunk.  Where is the switch mounted and where is the vacumn source.  Is it directly from the engine or taken from a seperate vacumn tank.

It is not vacuum. It is electric. The power button is to the botton right of the steering column near the rear fader switch.

Looking at the '68 setup I pictured in the above link, it looks like the same buckle as the others just in a black belt (where the others are tan)

No, The others I have seen are still black in color just a whole totally different design or style buckle. If that is the case, I may just make my own as some others seem to be doing on the cheap.

Were it I, before I spent a grand on these originals, I'd make some myself from some used belts.   Can't be that difficult, even if you have to add a mounting point in the trunk.

Loks like they made it to e-bay.  Maybe a good sign for you.  Bid what you feel they are worth to you and you might just get them.   

I really like your charger and it must be one of the most loaded cars out there.  Weather you ever sell it or not, I would have to think the value of your car would increase enough to cover the cost of those.  How cool would it be if you could say not only is it loaded but it has every option listed for it.  Also, if you eve rdo decide to sell, collectors are always more interested in cars with odd ball options but usually only if they come with the car.  I would think it would be almost impossible to find these later if you decide to bite the bullet.
