Correct Block for my 68 383 H Code car

I would like to find a correct block for my car and have been looking for a 383 HP block. I recently have been told over at Moparts that my 68 Charger would not have had an "HP" block. I was told that Road Runners and Super Bees only had the "HP" block in 68. Is this right?

I also understand that in 68 only the 4 barrell motors had the partial vin stamped by the bellshousing flange. Two barrell cars did not get stamped. Is this true?

Can someone shed some light on this for me?

I am building a nice 440 for the car now, but someday want the option to put the car back 100% stock this is why I have been looking for the correct block.

If 68 is the same as 69, only 383 4 barrel charger's with 4 speed transmission and without air, was build with the 335hp "HP" engine.

My matching numbers 69 "H" code auto, has the non "HP" 330hp 383 4 barrel engine.

IRC all 383 super bee's and road runner's with out air was build with the "HP" engine.

Mine is not stamped HP and has a 'P' stamped in with other numbers by the the oil pan rail.  I've seen 2bbl motors stamped with the 'R' in the same place.

R - Regular Fuel

68 and 69 are different. '68, '69 and '70 all vary by application. What is true for one year may not be true for a different year.

Where are you located? If you're close to Cincinnati I have a complete (mostly) 68 383 that I bought several years ago and was saving for a project that I don't own yet. I forget the date codes.

Thanks, I have a Dec 27 67 Cast block, but my car is a Dec 21 67 build car. I would like to find a block cast in Oct or Nov with a build date that would match up to my Dec 21, 67 build date of my car.
I would also like to see a "P" in the build date by the oil pan.

Hi Troy,

I am in Charlotte NC, so not so close. I would like to have a Oct or Nov 67 cast date with a motor assembly prior to Dec 27, 67. Also would like to have a "P" in the assembly code by the oil pan.
