Engine won't turn over

I took the engine apart down to pistons out to see what I had. Looked good so I put it back together all torqued up right. Oiled the crank lightly before I put the rod ends back on. Now the starter won't turn the engine over. Any ideas before I crawl under the car, pull the pan and loosen up the rod end bolts enough to turn it over? :brickwall:

can you crank it over manually with a breaker bar and 1 1/4" socket?    it may just be that your battery is weak.  get it tested and charged.

Weak starter or bad connections or poor ground.  I'd go a long way not to take it apart if I was sure the assembly was right.

Got my 1/2 breaker bar and put a 3 foot piece of pipe on the end. Took out the plugs even though they were only in finger tight.  Now I have a really tight crank bolt and an engine that still won't turn over.  BTW - battery is brand new - starter is unknown quality but I'm thinking if I can't turn it over by hand with a breaker bar, something is wrong inside.

Don't know what kind of engine you have but if it doesn't turn after assembly it's propably
a valve hitting the piston or a wrongly turned rodcap.

or a wrongly turned rodcap.

bingo!!!!

That or if you have a rod cap on the wrong rod, or even the main caps in the wrong spot will cause this too.

Thanks guys. Looks like I'll be opening her up. The rod end thing sounds right. I remember something goofy with the last set in. I'll bet I accidentally flipped it. Bummer

Remember to turn the engine over by hand after installing each rod/piston so that if one makes it seize you know which one it is.

I am so stupid. I remember turning it over by hand for all but the last two on the rear of the engine. Oh well, it'll be easy to find. Thanks guys.
