How do I remove the remote side view mirror?

I have the mirror removed from the door, but I can't disconnect the cables going to the handle on the upper door pad. I've looked through the service manual, but either I can't find it in there or the manual doesn't cover it. Thanks.

what year?  I think you need to unscrew the mount plate the thing around the out side of the remote handle?  If that is what Im am thinking your doing.

It's a '69. You say that the ring around the handle unscrews? I'll give that a try right now, thanks.
