Anyone ever use a set of these wheel dollies to move/store a car?

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MRM-M998002/

just for shitz & gigglez I was almost thinking of shoe horning in my Mustang for the winter into my 1½-ish car garage for the winter   :scratchchin:

Can a car be left on these for any period of time?

No but they look like harbor freight ones. I have some from HF and they work fine and cheaper (40 & 50 for a set of two) save on shipping too if you are near one. I have had a car on them for several years in my front garage and now I can't get to the car that I stuck in a corner.....i could have used them a couple times  :brickwall: I don't see a problem leaving them on for an extended period. These are 40 & 50 bucks a set.

Rethinking my plan by way of tape measure.......technically Id be able to fit both cars in the garage IF I raised the garage off the slab & lowered it onto the 2 cars....  Door is only 8ft wide.   Sure I'd be able to "slide" the Mustang into the corner but how the F would I get the Charger in?  :rotz:

WTF was I thinking? :slap:

I've got a set of the HF type. I think I bought two of them from H-F, and the other two from Rural King. They are near identical, but Rural King was a few bucks cheaper.

I'll say they don't work very well with a heavy car.

Used them under my Cuda, and they worked great... until I dropped the motor in.

Had them under the Challenger for a bit, and they just wore me out trying to move the car.

They deflect the slightest bit (under weight), and the casters no longer want to steer. Direction changes are near impossible.

Those ones from Summit lack the cross bracing, looking even more susceptible to deflection. They might work fine under a 2900 lb race car, but a 4000 lb B-body might prove to be too much.

Mine are from HF and I had no problem using them by myself. I put my charger in a corner and then put them on another fully assembled Cutlass and they rolled and turned fine. Both my garages have a fairly smooth surface though too.

We have two pair of the dark gray ones and when trying to move car on asphalt, they were horrible.  Every little bump or crack, we got stuck.  Changing wheel direction was also impossible.  Now on a smooth concrete floor, they glide across it with little efford.  I guess its all dependent on what type of floor you have.

My floor is very smooth. And I also lube the bearings and the wheels on the casters. Dang things just won't steer after I get any significant weight on them.

I will be building my own with some heavy duty angle and castors. Will be good for 6000lbs

Chris, what about putting both cars on the sides with a pillow between the dollies & the car?   :shruggy:

You'd only need one set of them to do both cars.  :Twocents:

Ya, I was gonna suggest HF. I personally like these http://www.harborfreight.com/1250-lb-capacity-mechanical-wheel-dolly-67287.html

i have a set similar to these that i got off ebag, heavy duty wheels work great when on level ground, even asphalt in street but my garage floor drops 5 inches from front to back and it takes 2 of us to push it into the garage
on level ground it moves freely even with motor/trans in it

Heck, I found it easier to roll the car around without the Dollies.. they are just way to stiff when you put that much rust on top of them.

im with magnum, once the engine went in they wouldnt roll. i got a heavy metal framed furniture dolly and blocked to the frame and it rolled great. just used one front and rear.

Excellent suggestion. However, instead of just pillows I suggest you upgrade to memory foam or gel pads just to be sure.

I was going to make a heavy duty set that I could set a jack stand in but with casters and 1/4 angle even that gets pricey.

We use them a lot at work and the only brand that has shown any longevity are the Go Jacks.  Buy cheap ones and you might as well get a second set while you're at it because they are almost a use once and throw away deal.
