My 8 year old HP pavillion finally died.  I'm looking for a replacement tower.  I like my peripherals, mouse, keyboard, monitor, speakers, etc....  I just need a tower.

I'm looking to spend between 250-400, I'd like minimum 3g RAM.  Hard drive storage is not as important as I keep all my important stuff on an external drive in case my computer crashes...like it did.

My family uses the computer for:

Internet surfing(by far #1 use)
video playback
watch dvd's
burn dvd's
Ipod music storage/download songs

That's pretty much it.  We don't do any gaming on the PC.
I'd definitely need a tower with an operating system installed, and MS office.

I'd like to get some recommendations from the peanut gallery lol...

This is where I would start

Also check with your local electronic stores for close out deals on end of life PCs and floor models.

Your really limiting your options with the $400 price mark.
A decient machine is gong to be more in the 600-800 price range.

And then your going to need a monitor.

I don't know what you have for wharehouse stores in your area but they are also a good place to shop.
They usually have good packaged deals that are reasonably priced.

And lastly look for Deals on the Dell web site (Yes I know there are Dell haters out there)
You can start with a base model and build your own PC from there if you like and get phone support and a good warenty.

Buying a PC is like buying a car. You got to shop around to find the one thats right for you.

Based on the criteria you suggested above, I think you would be very happy with the following:

All of your peripherals would hook up and work.  That is the idea behind this product.  Go to an Apple store near you and check it out.
