I have a 68 Coronet 440 with the original 318 motor slightly bored over, I recently had to rebuilt the steering box (another story) but while under the car I noticed antifeeze dripping where the motor meets up with the transmission. The car is a automatic, there was oil present too but they were not mixed, checking the dip stick its not milky or any sign of antifeeze to belive I have a blown head gasket and the compression on the motor is still high. One :shruggy: sure signs of antifeeze in the wrong part of the motor is the exhaust and its smells good and looks good when running. A freind suggested maybe a freeze plug popped? Anyone have a idea or if a freeze plug did popped what does this mean?? Thanks for the help in advance for your responses.  :shruggy:

Sounds like a freeze plug on the back of the block. More than likely it rusted out. The transmission will have to be pulled to replace it.

Thanks for the responses and answers I was affraid it might be a freeze plug, it doesnt appear to be leaking really bad infact its more of a slow drip if that. Question is how long can I drive the car like that (hoping to get the rest of the summer) before the car goes under the knife to fix it?? Thanks again for your responses.

It won't build pressure with a leak, but if you run it with the radiator cap loose, it won't push coolant out the leak as fast. You just have to watch the temperature and coolant level to be sure it isn't low and the temp stays good.
