Answering Bull's thread, I started thinking, there are a lot of good songs out there over the years, that have been covered by other bands that did the song as good or better the the original artist. I don't mind a good remake, so lets see you posts! This is just a few off the top of my head...

"My Sharona" originally done by The Knack by one of my favorite hard rock bands, Pink Cream 69. It's a lot better then the original version.

Another good remake by Hammerfall. It's even better then Pink Cream 69's version.

Pink Cream 69 - Detroit Rock City (Kiss cover) Some of you might not like it cause they do it a little faster, but it's still good.

Here's a couple I can think of off the top of my head.

I consider Quiet Riot's version of "Cum on Feel the Noize" to be better than Slade's.

Slade: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLsw668PVyY&feature=related

Sammy Hagar tops Janis Joplin with "Take Another Little Piece of My Heart" IMO.

I LOVE G3's (Yngwie Malmsteen/Steve Vai/Joe Satriani) version of Neil Young's 'Rockin' In The Free World'. Out of the 3 solos from 3:08 to 4:43, Steve's solo at 3:43 is definitley my favorite. When I play along with this song on my guitar, I do Steve's track  :musik010: :musik010: :musik010: :musik010:

Whether it's an actual 'cover' or not could be debated. Jeff Lynne wrote it and first recorded it when he was with The Move. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kuRvumUxMMI&feature=related

I did not realize that either.  I will say I think Ace does a great job covering this song.  It is my favorite version.

When I was in the Navy we often went to the Phillipines.  In the clubs in Alongapo ther were several bands that sounded just like if not better than the original artist.  I have several boot leg tapes sold on the street.  I was told they were not really boot leg but recorded by Phillipino groups and labeled as the boot leg artist.

When it comes to Dylan, just about ANY version is better. Byrds, Hendrix, Sonny and Cher, etc, etc, etc.....

The albums "Nativity in black" I & II. Nothing but Black Sabbath covers, most if not all very good stuff.
