Stopping the heat/71 440

Hello all,

I have a 69 Charger with a 440 engine (I think the engine is a 71, but I don't think that will matter here.)

All of the controls for the heater, AC, et al are all 'seized' and don't do anything.  However, the fan is on and the temp control is set to 'heat'.  So, its terribly pleasant driving around on a 27 degree* day with a hot breeze coming out the dash.

I am sure I will get to the dash controls eventually, but is there anything I can do now?  Can I stop the flow of hot collant into the heater core somehow?  Can I re-direct, or block some hose?  Of course, whatever solution would need to be either reversible or temporary...

Thanks,

Tony

* That's about 90 degrees for my neighbors to the south.

Take a look at both hoses going from the engine to the heater core. Remove one hose end from the heater core, won't matter which one. Take the other hose and remove it from the engine. Now connect the hose still connected to the engine to the port that you just removed the other hose from on the engine. So you will now have a hose that just makes a loop on the engine. Be sure to keep it off the exhaust manifold so it doesn't melt.

You might take the other hose and go ahead and loop it back to the heater core just to keep dirt out of it.

It doesnt have to have water flowing through it so a kink in either hose won't matter at all.

I put a inline shut off valve on the out going heater hose. I got it from NAPA for a few bucks.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone...

How would I determine which one is 'in' and 'out'?

It won't matter, but the hose that connects to the water pump is the one that supplies water to the heater core. The other one is return.

Why not disconnect the heater fan  :shruggy:
