How long can you leave a quality masking tape on paint?

I assume you can't leave it on for months without expecting some sort of problems with the adhesive getting left behind but can you leave it on for, say, a week or two? I'm talking about the good 3M blue stuff by the way.

Yes you can leave it on for a week indoors but if baking in sun & raining outdoors forget about it. Cheap tape I would not leave on more then a day. Better yet, just don't use cheap tape. LEON.

at room temperature it can stay on for long time,but as h-h said, I wouldn't leave it on loger than a day if temps are high or get rained on, sun exposure at high temps will leave adhesive residue within one hour

indoors or outdoors...i wouldnt leave it on any longer than a day.....
