A license plate frame I restored

Not so much a restoration as a paint job and buff but it looks 99% better. This is from the now-defunct Dodge dealership I grew up with in Eastern Oregon. I have a lot of fond memories of the place and am still good friends with the previous owners and some employees. My friend Mick Courtney ran it for 40+ years and when he retired he sold it to some guys who ran it into the ground in about five years, maybe less. :rotz:

1. How I found it. Bent and a little rusty but fortunately not broken.

2. Removed the old plate and scrubbed it good with a toothbrush and dish soap. I also scrubbed all the chrome with 0000 steel wool and it came out great. The only rust on it seemed to be transferred from the metal that was laying on top of it. I straightened it out as best I could but it's still a little tweaked. It should lay flat when mounted.

3. Taped off the chrome, scuffed the lettering with sandpaper, sprayed it with a couple coats of SEM self-etching primer and then a couple coats of SEM trim black. Let it dry and then scuffed the letters again before going over them with a chisel tipped paint pen.

4. All done. I went back over some of the spots with a very fine paint brush where the white bled over the edges. The small letters on the bottom were kind of a pain, especially the "N" and "M" but the large letters on top were easy. Only the "S" gave me any trouble there.

Yes, I know the dates on the pics are wrong.

Looks great Curtis! I restored my 1973 B.C plates for my Duster not too long ago.

Well, what I lack in talent I am usually able to make up for in patience. And depending on the part I can be very talent challenged. I think I'm on attempt #6 or 7 now in painting my steering reservoir without getting any runs, spots or junk in it.

Looks good. I need to clean up the one in my avatar pic. In AZ we cant use them anymore because the "Visalia" part covers up the Arizona on the license plate and they will give you a ticket.  :flame:
I pointed to two old drunks sitting across the bar from us and told my friend
"That's us in 10 years".
He said "That's a mirror, dip-shit!

I wish the the Courtney's frame said Dodge on it. :brickwall: Or at least had the pentastar.
