I'm getting ready to pull the 383 out of the Charger and I wanted to tap into the vast knowledge of the DodgeCharger Forum since this is the first time that I am doing this.  I've been reading the How To Rebuild Big-Block Mopar Engines book.  In there it suggest with a manual transmission that I should disconnect the bell housing at the transmission.  It doesn't go into much more detail than that.  I know with the auto it says about marking the flex plate location on the toque converter for when it is reinstalled.

Is there anything special to note or do for the manual transmission?  Where do I disconnect the release fork?  Do I just take the return spring off and take the nut off the fork rod?

Once I get this thing disconnected to come out with the engine is there anything I should be careful of when I pull the engine?  The book doesn't go into much detail about how to remove the clutch etc to get the bell housing off the back of the engine to proceed with the engine rebuild.

Thanks for all your help!

personally.....i would pull the transmission  and the engine together as one unit.....THEN disassemble the transmission from the block...may as well go through that tranny  and freshen it up too....just make sure cables and all other connections are disconnected from the engine /tranny  before pulling.....dont forget the speedometer cable!!!   Its a pretty simple procedure   The reason i say pull them together because  assuming what facilities you have to do this in...and being somewhat new to the hobby....you run the risk of damaging the input shaft of the tranny  by pulling upward excessively on the engine itself.....besides  makes for a much easier clean up and detail   :2thumbs:
