Hey everyone, I need some help as I can't seem to find a good source locally so far.   I'm needing to get an older car evaluated for my grandparents for some paperwork they are doing to get some financial help.

Here is what my grandpa has:  It's a 71 Chrysler Newport 2 dr Hardtop.  383 2-bbl, 3 on the tree.  Not sure if it has a police package but I know that he used to use it for his cop car down in Missouri back in the day.  Overall it's in good shape but of course the floor pans are a bit rusty.  Not sure how bad though.

I need to find someone who can give us a written price on how much it's worth here in Des Moines Iowa.  But not sure who I can go to for this.  Any help would be greatly appreciate.

Thanks
Brent

Your insurance company should have information on getting cars appraised, I'd try calling them first.
Remember the average response time to a 911 call is over 4 minutes.

The average response time of a 357 magnum is 1400 FPS.

I think an estimate can range from $1000- 3000.  Hard to find buyers of C-bodies that want to pay top dollar unless the car is really nice.  May find one guy who is willing to pay more $$ because of the oddity of a 3 on the tree transmission as late as 1971 year + big block, but will probably find a 5:1 ratio of guys who want it cheap to demo derby / pull engine / rearend / or want a cheap cruiser.

Could call an appraiser.  Look at Hemmings.com  classifieds, they have a section with appraisers who advertise. Would it be worth $200 to have a professional appraisal, i don't know ?
If you can find the CPI guide [ cars of particular interest ] -- that is what my bank used to use as a guideline in valueing loans against classic cars used as collateral.

A 71 Newport with a 3 on the tree??? That has to be a very rare car.

I seriously doubt they even made a 3 speed manual column for that year C-body. I think he means to say 3 speed auto on the column.

Without a good look it's hard to say, but 1-3k is good sounding range to me.

They made the 4 speed 300's so I wasnt going to doubt that it might have one, but I know I have never seen one... But then again I had never seen a 68 Charger with a 3 on the tree till I bought mine.

The standard in a 69 Newport was a 383 2bbl with a 3 speed Manual on the column.  I had one, too (2 dr. hdtp.), several years ago.  It was a one owner from Nebraska and eventually went south for a donor to "make" a 300 Hurst conv. clone 440-4 speed.  Everyone raved about how rare it was, but no one wanted to pay anything for it.

Thanks no318 for backing me up on that.   It is a 3 speed manual on the tree.  I've been in this car many times since I was little for some interesting drives down the back roads of Iowa.  I will check with their insurance company.

Thanks for the information everyone.

Wow, that's cool and unusual. I been learned today! I would not have expected that in a car as late as 71.
