Hello all.  New to the forum and to classic cars so please bear with my stupidity.  Over the weekend I received a 68 Charger that is in pretty good condition.  Mainly cosmetic with some minor mechanical work.  In order to get it home we had to mess with the ballast resistor and coil.  The family friend who helped me suggested to change out the ballast resistor with a 12V fuseable link.  He mentioned that while this would take away from the cars originality it would ultimately be a more reliable fix.  Has anyone made this alteration?

Thanks for any comments or suggestions.

 welcome to the site, while it might be possible, I've never seen any done like that and don't suggest you do it either...  :nono:

A fusible link is not going to balance the variations in voltage going to the ignition system.

fuseable link  in stead of a ballast risistor
would not do that   :nono: :nono: :nono:    thats crazy  :slap:

Ballast Resistor and a fusable link do two totally different things and swapping them out would more than likely burn up your ignition system components.

God must love stupid people; He made so many.

Install a new resistor is it should be. A fusible link is just a wire, it does not control voltage at all.
Don't worry about originality in those tiny details unless the car is something really special and rare.

I saw your username as "Seuss" at first.
