70 charger r/t resto also not scared Update April 2022 more paint

Keep up the good work  . This thread is giving me alot of motivation. I was looking at my '70 last night, shaking my head, and trying to figure out where to start. My car needs ALOT of work and to see someone else in the same boat and gettin' er done is inspiring

She has had the AMD catalog thrown at it for sure.

I checked my excel file parts list tonight. Roughly 11k in new and used sheet metal counting the front fender,door,trunk lid.

I'm guesstimating around $30-35k total invested once done. Not bad considering a new econobox commuter is 25K+. I didn't have 35-40K laying around to buy a turn key car. Easier to dump some $$ over a few years. Hard to believe its going to be 4 years in the summer since we hauled it home.


Woman at work was saying they just got a new ram 1500 long horn with every option and its $900 a MONTH for FIVE YEARS.  

Safe to say in 5 years it will be worth maybe 10k. Helps me feel better about it lol.

Roof skin has been cut off. inner structure blasted and primed. Rain drip gutters replaced with AMD. The inner structure needed a piece added on under the rain drips on both sides. Waiting on the rear upper roof bow and the rear crossmember,inner wheelhouse to close off the back end and roof skin.








New piece made to repair the inner structure under the rain drip.

I bought it back in 2008 hard to believe already been 3 1/2 years i've had it. It was out of the shop from Oct 10 this past february. Once the trunk floor is in that will be another big hole filled. Button up the rear clip and roof skin. Its on a pause this week, parts still are not in. Two accidents came in on the weekend.

I would love to get a 69 C500. If i was to sell it once done i'd put cash on top and buy a turn key C500. Its part of the family now though. Lots of blood/sweat/tears involved.

The good thing is you will have a new car when done! I can't believe I've had my Charger since 2004. Too many distractions! Most of them are gone now. Your panel replacement is inspiring.

Is the red paint a epoxy primer?  What brand?

Also----great photos.  Many show areas of the charger I've never seen.  Always wondered what was under the cowl.

Its rustoleum red epoxy primer. Used it for the areas you won't see once its together. For a first we are going to use this aircraft Zinc Chromate  once all the AMD panels are on and stripped,the bottom is blasted on the rotisserie.

This week it received some more AMD metal surprise  
Rear crossmember,upper rear roof bow have been welded on. The rocker has been test fitted and once I blast a bit of the rest on the inner and prime it today it will go on next week.Going to put some black rustoleum paint inside the rear frame rails today, so the trunk pan can go in next week too.

Brother was saying of all the AMD parts so far he put on the only disappointment was the stamping of the rocker. The whole thing was on an upward bow.

I eat some more sand today and blasted the backside of the rocker and primed it. Put some rustoleum black paint inside the rear frame rails. Trunk pan and rocker are ready to go in this week.

Got the inside of the rails painted and the inner rocker blasted Sunday. Brother has been busy the past couple days. Rocker is welded on and the trunk floor is about 1/2 done.










Got to love the AMD metal. The rocker we joined below the hinge pillar as the rocker was patched over top of the pilar initially as didn't think the rocker was soft until it got hit with sand. The mouse nest must have held moisture over the years. Virtually no bodywork to do on the rocker either after some jacking at different points and welding.

Some spotweld recreations, and the bottom of the trunk lock support redone. This weeks fun is the tail panel and rear valance.
Wow AMD missed the ball on the positioning of the tail light buckets on the panel. Brother had to take the buckets off and reposition them.

Taillight test fit didn't go good buckets had to be cut off and re welded.







Trunk extensions are in. Rear valance was test fitted and well lets say its on the table getting reworked.

I've always wondered how much AMD has sold $$ wise in mopar metal since the debut.

From what we have seen and many others on the board you might want to look into a goodmark or other rear valance. The AMD one has issues.
Only thing i ever had to wait on was outter wheel houses. I waited for the new releases as the first batches were a bad fit.
