Hi guys and gals,
When I bought my '68 the TV linkage wasn't installed. The previous owner had about ten thousand miles on the tranny. I installed the pieces that came with the car but had to make two of the rods. When adjusted to the factory specs it still won't downshift. I may have the wrong lever on the trans, at WOT I could still push the linkage back about half an inch. After playing with the adjustment so that at WOT the trans lever was all the way back. I still have no downshift and the upshifts are quick even under hard acceleration.  Is there something I can do or is the tranny toast?

Thank you.
Hey, at least it's a B body.

If the upshifts are early and there is no WOT kickdown the problem is still most likely in the linkage. Is WOT at the pedal also WOT at the carb? Have someone sit in the car and floor the pedal then push back on the carb lever to see if it is also wide open.

Is the carb and manifold stock or aftermarket? If aftermarket does the carb have the correct Mopar throttle lever extension? Keep in mind that the factory light throttle upshift speeds are lower than most people like, being in top gear by 20 mph is within factory spec.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

John, thanks for your reply.

The manifold and carb are aftermarket. By the throttle lever extension are you talking about the the rod that goes from the carb lever to the manifold bellcrank or the lever on the carb throttle shaft? Here's some pic's of what I have. I used threaded rod from the carb to manifold bellcrank and from the manifold bellcrank to the trans bellcrank.  You won't see it when I get my oval air cleaner on.

The carb does open all the way with the pedal to the floor but the kickdown linkage will still open about 3/8 inch.

lengthen either rod by 3/8" or so, then try again.

I had it adjusted that way last time I drove it and it didn't make any difference. Is is critical to have the lever on the trans all the way forward at idle and all the way back at WOT? I could move the kick down rod further out on the carb lever to get more travel.

The correct throttle lever extension for your Holley is #20-7, this places the stud in the correct position for the linkage ratio and will straighten out the inward angle that the top rod now sits at.

For proper operation it is critical to have the lever on the trans all the way forward at idle and NEAR full back at WOT?

John, Thank you. I'll order the lever extension and let you know if it fixes my problem.

 Hey, guys. I got the lever bracket installed and MY CAR DOWNSHIFTS now. HooRay. My car is better off the line also with the correct ratio on the carb lever. Thank you very much for your help.
