How to add front (door) speakers on a 2nd gen??

Wouldn't that require some body work? Thats what I was told at a sound shop I took the car to when I had the back speakers replaced. That front speakers just don't fit in those doors. I've seen some pro-touring-like or pro-touring cars that DO have the front speakers and I'm wondering how it's done.
